Fashion Revolution Haulternative

April 18-24 is Fashion Revolution Week - a time to use our voices to "transform the fashion industry into a force for good". Marking the Rana Plaza collapse on April 24, 2013, Fashion Revolution Week calls on bloggers, vloggers and other socials to publicly answer the question #whomademyclothes and present alternative, more sustainable approaches to the traditional haul video or blog outfit post.
I have put together lots of outfits over the last few years using second hand clothes and you can see my round up from a year of not buying new clothes here
I do feel its very important to point out how poorly served plus sized women are by ethical clothing companies.
At a size 18/20 I struggle to find anything in my size which isn't either incredibly expensive or just not very fashionable and, the selection is incredibly small. To my mind there are two conversations we need to have:
1: How can we shop in a more ethical sustainable way while enjoying fashion and style. For me following fashion is a creative outlet and an important part of my identity. Having felt marginalized all my adult life as a fat woman I refuse to feel shamed about wanting to indulge this. I am not a monster though and also don't want the clothes on my back to have been made in misery.
2: When ethical clothing brands stock so little for women who are over a size 14 how can we be expected to make a significant contribution to this movement?  I think we need to keep the pressure on for brands who already stock plus sizes to invest more in ethical fair working conditions and for those brands exclusively making "ethical" clothing,we need to keep telling them that we will buy some if its available in our size.
Lets keep this conversation going but make no mistake its twice as hard for plus size women to make ethical clothing choices.

Its not all doom and gloom though. There are some ways we can contribute. Including thrifted and second hand pieces in our wardrobes is one route. Buying something from ebay or a charity shop does mean one less item of clothing is going into a landfill and cuts down on the demand for so much fast fashion. Its not perfect but its a start.
With this in mind I thought I would combine a haulternative with some of my fave thrifted finds and nifty customization ideas.
I love customizing clothes, you can give existing pieces in your wardrobe a lift and turn generic charity shop clothes into something worth voguing in.Watch my video here.

Purple Rabbits And Pink Beehives

I've recently been binging on Mad men  (its been added to Netflix) and falling in love with Joanie's style all over again. The sassy secretary, who becomes chairwoman of the board, offers a masterclass in how to look put together, but still have fun with fashion. Of course this has meant I have been channeling all kinds of 1960's vibes into my outfits and today is no different.

The lovely team at LindyBop, knowing my love for hares sent me this Corrine Purple Rabbit Print top and with its Pan Collar and clashing colourway its perfect for my current vibe.

I know some of you find the LindyBop sizing confusing. This top is XXL but is actually too big for my size 18/20 frame. An XL (or a tight fit large) would have been better. I've fixed this by tucking it into my past season pleather skirt (because why wear a beautiful living creature when you really don't have to) Part of the loose fit is because I have very small round shoulders so if you are wide across the back you might prefer the upper sizes.

Don't you just love how fashion allows you to dip between the decades like a clothes obsessed Time Lord!

Pretty In Peggy Porschen

Last week I visited a cake shop and bakery which could have been created simply to share on Instagram. In an age where every other cake shop seems to think a wilted flower in a milk bottle makes its social media gold, I did fall madly in love with Peggy Porschen in London's Balgravia

Marie Claire magazine reckons Peggy Porschen makes the "best cupcakes in the world" and whilst the lack of vegan offerings means this statement remains unchallenged (by me at least) my fellow afternoon tea guests gave glowing reviews to the cakes, pastries and milkshakes on offer.

What is indisputable was how gorgeous this place is. Decked out in all its Easter finery, the compact but bijou space was a feast for the eyes. Jars of coloured almonds nestling next to ceramic bunnys, fresh flowers picking out the pastel colours of the decor and a chandelier almost as wide as the ceiling.
There is not denying this place is an Instagram posters dream and I definitely became slightly snap happy.

Whilst I sadly couldn't eat any of the cakes I took full advantage of the cafes extensive drinks menu, and enjoyed a delicious cold fruit tea full of blueberries as well as a yummy hot chocolate made with almond milk (with a polka dot froth)

My reason for visiting this candy coloured place of loveliness was to catch up with some lovely plus size bloggers and chat about all things Curve Fashion Festival
Along with founder Zoe Ellis and social media manager Hollie from Pretty Big Big Butterflies we made some exciting plans with Lottie Lamour and Hayley from Curves and Curls

shame I didn't open my eyes but how lovely do these other ladies look!

Ive been helping out with the festivals PR and its shaping up to be such a wonderful event. For more details check out the website for dates, news and of course tickets.

Vegan Easter Eggs

Easter is nearly here and whether you plan to spend it at church, take a more Pagan view and will be focusing on renewal (that's me) or just plan to enjoy the long weekend, one thing that's inescapable is our association with this holiday and eating chocolate eggs.
As a Vegan you might think options are limited but as with so many things, the landscape for dairy swerving folk is brighter than ever before. There are quite a few eggs available which contain no animal products, including some from your local supermarket. Do not fear, the Easter bunny visits vegans too. Here is my pick of the top four vegan Easter eggs available to buy this week.

Venchi Luxury Italian Chocolate Egg with Friendship Bracelet Buy here

Available from one of my favourite places to buy vegan confectionery veganTown, this egg is absolutely delicious. It contains a hazelnut praline centre, and really creamy chocolate (similar in taste to Vego bars) This is such a pretty egg and the box is also beautiful with a delicate floral design on. The thing that really sets this egg apart though is the gift inside. A gorgeous friendship bracelet. If you have a luxury loving vegan in your life, this is definitely the egg for them.

Booja Booja Large Kashmir Gift Egg with Almond Caramel Truffles Buy Here
Connoisseurs of Vegan chocolate will already be familiar with Booja Booja truffles, they are always in gorgeous  boxes and so delicious. These eggs are very expensive at £25 each but, they do come in a hand painted decorative wooden egg. A keepsake which will last even after the Easter bunny has hopped away.

Moo Free Original Organic Easter Egg with Buttons

Moo chocolate is probably the closest you will get to traditional milk chocolate so is usually very popular with vegan kids (Baba loves them) The Moo eggs this year are without a doubt the best value dairy free Easter eggs you will find. At under a fiver and available from most large supermarkets (and your usual health food stores) they are perfect if you have got to buy lots of young relatives Easter treats.

Tesco Free From Chocolate Egg With Coins

Another bargain dairy free egg. The Tesco Free from Easter egg isn't very exciting to look at but, tastes very good indeed. It also has chocolate coins which I hadn't eaten since becoming vegan so were greeted with some excitement at Chez Pamper and Curves. Another good basic egg which at £4 won't break the bank or harm the cows!

However you spend Easter have a wonderful time.
