The Girl With The Dragon Jacket

I've been lusting after satin bomber jackets featuring Japanese inspired embroidery for a while. The contrast of the luxe shiny satin with the preppy bomber shape really appeals me.
I wanted one that was a pale soft pastel shade so when I found this little beauty at Hyper Japan by the French brand Aoi  it seemed to call to me.

Who could resist a jacket the colour of a macaroon featuring a very impressive God like dude on the back? Not me.

This jacket works so well with everything. I'm wearing it to death at the moment despite the fact its freezing and I should actually be wearing something fleecey and sensible.

Today I've worn it with a past season floaty pink ballerina skirt and a hand printed top by 1 of 1 design who produce some really beautiful clothes.

Its not escaped my notice that its also matching my hair and my new lipstick. I'm definitely not too pure to be pink.

I used to be unsure how well bomber jackets would work on my frame but I've now decided I love them. A lovely lady even stopped me in the street today to say how much she liked it-result.

Where Are The Plus Size Zombies?

Every relationship has key components in it which make it work. Mine with my husband Nicky is that after watching an episode of The Walking Dead he will indulge the following conversations
Me:"considering the obesity epidemic there are not many fat zombies"
Nicky: "Maybe they got eaten brains and all because they were the most juicy"
Me: "Probably but even so where are all the size 22 undead, clawing at the windows, the elastic of their leggings rotting along with their flesh, their Simply Be coat which they were so pleased had pockets hanging in tatters on their putrid but chubby shoulders?"
Nicky "Shall I draw you one?"
Me: "Yes please"

And so "DeadCurvy" was born (or reborn if you want to carry the zombie metaphor all the way) A plus size zombie who is a lady on the street (minus some bodyparts) and a freak at the human buffet.
Sure she may no longer have brain activity and OK she has walked away from her vegan lifestyle to snack on humans but she is still sassy in a cadaver kind of way.

As usual we are offering zombie goodness in all the sizes (because in the zombie apocalypse will any of us give a shit if we are a size 8 or a size 28-Life lessons people) and you can get vests, tees, slash necks, long sleeves, we are even offering prints. Its a embarrassment of fat zombie riches and I couldn't be happier.

And the good news doesn't stop there. Its free worldwide shipping until tomorrow (yep an offer that is actually on payday-take that Blackfriday and CyberMonday) You can shop at Nicky Rockets Here

Five Handmade Christmas Gift Ideas (Including a Harry Potter and David Bowie inspired one)

Creating handmade Christmas gifts is such a lovely thing to do. Its thoughtful, can be more environmentally friendly (if you upcycle things you already own) and if you don't go mad in Hobbycraft can be cheaper too.
The important thing is to ensure that the handmade gifts you make are actually created with the person in mind. Crochet scarfs are beautiful but if your sister is a label bunny who wouldn't be seen dead in your Doctor Who  inspired neck warmer its just a waste.
One way to combat this is to think about the person you are crafting for and really try and include some elements that are totally individual to them. A singer they love, favourite colour, their hobby. It will show that you have really given the item some thought and chances are it will be cherished, not hidden in a cupboard.
Here are five ideas I've recently created, mostly from items I already had lying around. For detailed step by step instructions take a look at the video below.

Mermaid and Crazy Cat Lady Decoupage

Decoupage (the art of sticking pictures onto items and then varnishing over them to create a glossy finish) is a really simple and effective way to create customized items for your friends and family. Old beauty boxes are great for this (you can create pretty jewelry boxes) but here I have used an old vase and gravy boat, to create gift holders.

The crazy cat lady gravy boat was first painted and decorated with polka dots. I also made a gift tag using an old label from a dress and a scrap of ribbon from something else.

With the vase I simply painted in any chips and then added some mermaid pictures. I've filled both of these with beauty goodies (MUA make up starts at a pound a lipstick and is cruelty free and these facemasks are also a pound)  and will finish with a cellophane wrapping.

David Bowie Photo Frame

if you are working to a budget tinier than a mouses nose then this is the project for you. I had this frame already and simply added glitter to it with PVA glue-I fixed the glitter with hairspray so it wouldn't shed. I then found a picture of Bowie on Pinterest and added a few lines of one of his songs from Labyrinth as this is for my best friend who had this song as her first dance at her wedding. You can print out quotes, make a photo collage or reproduce a poem-in a decorated frame it makes a lovely gift and will cost you only a few pence.

Pop Art Cushion

if you are fairly hopeless at crafts but still fancy creating a unique gift then this is the project for you. Here I've just used a cushion I already owned and hot glued on a sequined patch which I found on ebay for only a few pounds. It took minutes and looks really cool.

Harry Potter Gift Box

This has probably been my favorite gift project this year. Its so simple but will be such good fun for the HP fan in your life. Here I simply covered an old cardboard suitcase that had belonged to Baba in brown paper (you can get these for a few pounds at places like the works or use an old shoe box or beauty box instead)

I found some free Harry Potter printables online and glued those on too and have filled it with some very inexpensive Potter merchandise from Primark. If you are feeling super crafty you could even make your own wand from a twig.

If you don't have the money to buy any HP stuff make a little hot chocolate kit by putting some hot chocolate powder in a clean jar, including a bag of marshmallows and a handwritten "cosy" spell. All delivered by owl post of course.

I hope you have enjoyed these Christmas Craft ideas. I would love to hear what you plan to make over the festive season. My video showing you all the steps for these projects can be viewed here, and if you like this please subscribe to my channel.

Support Your Local Girl Gang

No your eyes so not deceive you, its an outfit post. Triggered by my new favourite thing, a skirt with braces! I brought this from a charity store but you can but similar here

Today's outfit feels cute and punky, one part pastel goth to two parts riot grrl and I love it. My green striped top was from Oxfam and my bikerboots are past season Yours.

I must point out my fab badge made by the very talented Chloe at LifesBig Canvas her work is awesome. It says support your local girl gang and whilst Im not sure I have a gang, I am blessed to know some very cool women who inspire me daily, so that's kind of the same thing.

This is the perfect Autumn outfit, especially today when its been tipping down. I realise that stripes and braces fly in the face of "flattering" on a plus size body, but you know me well enough to know I don't give a solitary f**k. I brought it, I liked it, I wore it. The end.

Morbid Curiosities

Its that time of year where the first "Christmas Gift Guides" start to appear. Usually featuring all the same old stuff, produced by the same companies.
This year I thought I would share some gift ideas that are a million miles away from the norm, kicking off with this fascinating book entitled Morbid Curiosities
If you, or someone in your life, loves the strange and macabre this rather beautiful (if unsettling) coffee table book is perfect.

Morbid Curiosities: Collections of the Uncommon and the Bizarre, features 18 of the world’s most extensive collections of the macabre from archaic contraptions for electroshock therapy and jellied human brains, to confession letters by notorious criminals and the weapons they used to commit their crimes.

The collections are absolutely eye-popping with photographs in the book showing a huge range of remarkable pieces.

Just some of the pieces include a two headed taxidermied cow, a “Quack Shock Helmet”, metal “fingertip shapers” worn by women at night, 20th century respiratory masks that inspired Darth Vada, art by mass murderers, a mummified gorilla death mask, gas masks for horses and dogs, a huge collection of photographs of 19th century skin diseases and countless skulls, preserved organs, shrunken heads, Ouija Boards and skeletons.

Morbid Curiosities provides a fascinating insight into the strange world of collectors of the macabre, alongside interviews with each collector, detailed captions tell the curious stories behind each object, many of which are being shown outside the private world of their collections for the first time.

I'm calling this a coffee table book but would advise caution if you have kids or members of your household who are less enamored with the dark side of the moon. However if the weird, wonderful (and frankly twisted) tickles your pickle then this would make a very welcome (if disturbing) addition under your black tinsel Christmas tree.
You can purchase Morbid Curiosities for £19.95 here
