GIVEkitchen

I have been aware of Liverpool based GIVEkitchen for a few  weeks. Friends of mine had been sharing images of delicious looking meals and screenshots of frankly awesome sounding menu choices all over facebook and I was very intrigued.

Not only was I excited that a new Vegan restaurant was opening in Liverpool I  loved the values of this enterprise. For every large plate of food purchased, a meal is given to a homeless shelter. This is such a simple yet revolutionary idea. Its Robin Hood style thinking, taking from the more affluent and giving back to the most needy. Compassionate business values-this is the future (along with children obviously,  like what Whitney said)

Compassion and ethics are all well and good but what about the food? Well the short answer is its absolutely delicious.
Before I start my food review I must tell you about the place itself. The location of GIVEkitchen is not what you might expect. Set back in a small industrial estate on Harrington road off the dock road its a bit tricky to find (follow the signs, that's my tip) but once there its beautifully presented. Low key, wooden floors, modern light fittings, mismatched chairs. It's a real boho mix of super modern and upcycled. I felt really comfortable.

Once we arrived the waiting staff were all lovely and we spent a good half hour drooling over the menu, there are some lovely choices.
We started with the BBQ Tofu skewers which were so tasty and have given me so much inspiration for summer meals. Having spied what others were eating, we could see the portion size even for the small plates was generous, so we shared one starter between us as we knew we would get desert ( we are Beedles after all)

Tofu Skewers in a sticky BBQ glaze-amazing

The drinks menu is also really extensive and offers some lovely soft drink options as well. Baba had sparkling Elderflower while me and Nicky after a long day both had an almond coffee.  For our mains I chose the super protein cheese burger with sweet potato fries. If you like diner style food without the side of cow this is a great option.

Nicky had the seasonal Italian pizza. With a thin crust and crunchy veg topping it was a very good choice indeed.

Baba decided on the Sushi. She loves vegetarian sushi anyway but it often features cream cheese so she has missed it since turning vegan. The Nori sushi had avocado and ginger in and was really good.

It was all so tasty and the presentation was lovely. This food may be organic and vegan but it looks pretty. Babas Sushi had edible flowers on, my sweet potato fries came in mini plant pots. It was all quirky and fun but with amazing service and quality food.

The absolute stars of our meals though were without doubt the deserts. My Orange Blossom rice pudding was possibly one of the nicest sweets I have ever had.

Babas chocolate and peanut butter brownie was melt in your mouth yummy and Nickys Cacao, Walnut and banana sponge was amazing.
The bill at the end was an incredibly reasonable £60 which, given that we had a few round of drinks and coffees as well as a shared starter, mains and deserts was brilliant value. I can't recommend GIVEkichen enough-beautiful food, beautiful ideals.
