Mothers Day Fashion With Yours Clothing

Celebrating Mothers Day with Baba is always very, very special to me. I of course love to also send my own mum gifts and cards (she is a total warrior inspiration queen) but getting to spend the whole day with my own daughter and being recognised as a mama always feel so amazing.

The road to motherhood wasn't especially easy for me. After many years of heartache and disappointments by thirty five I had all but accepted that I would never have my own child. I let go of hope and stopped imagining a future with a mini version of me and Nicky in it.
Instead I began to plan a gorgeous life of sassy impractical cars, trips to India and lots of designer handbags. I realised I had to stop feeling incomplete and needed to concentrate on the very happy full life I already had. I had children in my life, a lovely nephew, my friends had children who I was God mother to and I had my cats who rocked my world.

With my greatest achievement-My beautiful daughter
As so often happens no sooner had I driven my brand new mini off the forecourt  and started contemplating my whole "Eat, Love, Pray" style Odyssey I started to feel a bit off colour. I was totally adrenalised and couldn't sleep but also felt ridiculously tired all through the day.
I was pregnant of course and this time I carried to term. I had always dreamt of having a brown haired, brown eyed daughter so was quite prepared to have a blue eyed son (and would have been so grateful)  so imagine my delight when little baba arrived.

Twirling on the beach

Baba is ten in June. Yes my baby will be in double digits and I'm just as thankful and happy as the day we brought her home from hospital. Now of course she is a fashion obsessed, Zoella loving, Minecraft playing teen in waiting.

How lovely is this outfit

The lovely team at Yours who has known Baba since she came along for a Mother/daughter photoshoot with the brand a few years ago offered to send us some outfits to wear and we had great fun picking things out.

Baba picked a pink swing prom dress with black lace overlay  black velvet Scarlett and Jo leggings and a very cool black Fedora and looked like such a cute mini fashionista.

I love everything about this outfit

I chose a beautiful black netted tulle skirt  with a short sleeve blouse with silver bead embellishments I love everything about this outfit and have worn it loads since it arrived. The skirt which is by Scarlett and Jo for Yours is really lovely. Structured and stiff, its very Carrie Bradshaw.

Thank you Yours for helping us celebrate in the week leading up to Mothers Day. We had such a lovely few hours on Hoylake beach taking this shots in-between playing with the dog.

Pranamat Eco A Review

2016 is a year of change for me. Letting go of bad habits, pursuing new dreams and putting my mental and physical health at the top of my list of priorities (even when my busy life encourages me to sideline it)
I've already joined a chanting group and have been doing some yoga at home so when I was sent the Pranamat massage mat I was quite keen to try it out.

The Pranamat ECO works on the same principles of reflexology. Its effectively a ‘bed of nails’ which claims to activate all areas of the body and mind.
The unique lotus pattern is supposed to help activate the body into boosting its natural defences, metabolism, blood circulation and stimulates the lymph nodes. The end result according to the literature  is an enhanced resistance to inflammation and an increase in endorphins, which serve as your body’s most powerful natural painkillers. With regular use the makers claim the mat will help with sleep, well being and even improve your cellulite. Wow that's a lot of pressure to put on what is essentially a mat with spiky flowers on it.

The mat arrived in a really cute brown wooden box with a handle on it. There are a choice of colours and I chose the Lavender as it looked so pretty and also seemed quite restful.

The mat comes with a booklet with suggested poses and exercises so here I am in my yoga kit trying them out.

Position One-Lying on your back
Now first off its worth noting that the spiked lotus flowers on the mat are really spiky-as in when you touch the mat it pricks you. I was surprised at how sharp they were and was a little unsure about trying it (especially as the booklet recommends lying on it with no top on-I didn't try this) so I was a cautious trying the first suggested pose-lying down with a cushion under your neck to give your back and shoulders a massage.

I was surprised at how relaxing lying in this position on the mat was. I always struggle with lying flat on the floor as have a lower back injury (result of my epidural when I had baba, long story) so kept my knees bent and really felt that the mat gave my back and shoulders a massage. It felt weird but good. The lotus flowers didn't hurt me but at the same time I could feel them.

Initially this felt odd but it did seem to massage my lower back and I did feel the benefit later
Position Two-Lying on your side

The next pose was my least favourite. Lying on my side seemed to really make the lotus flowers dig in-the instructions did say that this was perfectly normal and that with regular use you get used to this but I'm not sure I would do this position again as it was quite uncomfortable.

I think my face tells you everything you need to know about this position-it didn't work for me
Position Three-Feet lying flat

I hadn't expected much from using the mat this way but it turned out to be my favourite position. I am on my feet a lot, as a university lecturer, make up artist and of course head cook, bottle washer and dog walker so my trotters get quite sore. Placing them on the mat for just five minutes and rolling my heels and the balls of my feet made them feel amazing, I have started doing this every day when I sit down and the results have been brilliant. Rested, happy feet.

This is just bliss
Position Four Hands on mat

Yet again I hadn't expected much form using the mat this way but after a week of crazy deadlines where my fingers have been non stop tap, tapping on a laptop resting them on the lotus flowers and gently rolling them up and down really helped take out stiffness both on my finger joints and wrists.

Let your fingers so the walking

At £90 this is definitely an investment but if you suffer with aching joints, back pain or need help relaxing its very good indeed. The Pranamat website offers lots of ideas of how you can incorporate them into your daily life, including using it on your office chair, to lie on whilst reading even standing on it when you brush your teeth.

Baba also loves this mat and uses it all the time (with my supervision) she finds it particularity nice after a long day at school sitting in uncomfortable plastic chairs.

One Top,Three Looks The Curvissa Challange

One of the things I am really keen on doing more of this year is showing how you can make items from your wardrobe work really hard.
I'm not just a fashion blogger I'm also a fashion blog reader and I know how difficult it is when you see new clothes and styles daily but can maybe only afford to buy one new thing every few months.

One top-Three Looks

Which is why this challenge by Curvissa to create three totally different looks using one top really appealed.
This Apart Chiffon Blouse Top looks at first glance to be quite dressy but as you can see, it quite easily works for day wear and a more casual look.

Look #1 Chic Workwear

The beaded neckline on this top is so pretty and actually doesnt look any more dressy than a statement necklace if you keep the rest of your outfit quite understated. Putting a pencil skirt and simple cardigan together with tights and my glittery brogues makes this a really cute work outfit.

Look #2 Wedding Guest

OK so black might seem a bit on the Gothic side for a wedding but it actually works great for winter nuptials. A long tutu skirt, heels and a sparkly bag have helped me create a gorgeous occasion outfit using items I already own. Perfect.

Look #3 Relaxed Day Out

I love putting ripped jeans with a dressy shirt. Its very rock n roll especially when I add my trilby and biker boots. You might not think about putting an embellished top with your fave skinny jeans but as you can see, its a combination that really works.

I hope you have enjoyed my take on this challenge and its made you consider how the addition of just one new item can reinvigorate existing pieces from your wardrobe.

Bargain Basement Chanel And Glittery Brogues

Hi Everyone, sorry its been so long since my last post. Life has been so busy over the last week that I've not had a moment to spare.
So whats been occurring? Well the Nicky Rockets brand has really started to take off (we have a printing sweatshop type thang happening which is threatening to take over the house-think premises will soon be needed)  I've started feature writing for Bustles sister site Romper (already the dream job with the most inspiring staff ever) I'm still a senior university lecturer in film production (I have the best students ever)  and I was booked to run a seminar on plus size fashion at LondonEdge this week. All this and having to help baba with her 11+ studies and learn lines as she had landed a star part in the schools Ash Wednesday play. I am having to be so organised to keep on top of everything-thank goodness for my planner. If I ever lose it I'm doomed.
Today I had a spare hour and as I was feeling quite snazzy thought I would go and grab some shots and try and remember how this outfit post malarkey works.

I brought this jacket from Primark a few weeks ago. With its boxy shape and fringe detailing it felt a little like bargain basement Chanel and I adore the folkys quilted fabric.
This is a size 20 but being Primarni it only just fits over my arms so if you do buy it size up if you can.If you want to buy something similar Simply be have this jaquard print boxy jacket

I always think when you wear a really loud print you should display it against a neutral background. Like a Rothko on a white gallery wall. With this in mind I've worn a simple black popcorn top by Evans and peg trousers by Asos Curve.

How amazing are these

My accesories today are both very sparkly indeed. These black glitter brogues are by primark. Clarks do a similar pair here in silver

So in love with my White Pepper clutch

My crescent moon bag is by White pepper and I couldn't love it more. It was a birthday gift from Nicky Rockets. It completely rocks my world.

I had a bit of a rubbish weekend and beginning of the week. Feeling very down about a few things but I'm happy to report that I'm feeling back to my usual positive self again. I have a beautiful life. Great husband, amazing kid and some awesome friends. I also have glittery brogues. Its all good.

Shaking off the negativity and looking ahead
P.S who watched the new X Files? I loved it so much.
