Fairytale/Horror Event this month!

On November the 28th I am holding my yearly hair, make up and photography extravaganza called Horror Hottie/Fairytale/Fantasy
It follows on from last years very popular Horror Hottie and Heroes vs Villains events. Its a simple premise, think of your favourite character from film, comics, mythology, fairytales or folklore and we will transform you into a beautiful interpretation with the help of make up, wigs, prosthetics (if needed) and some very clever camera trickery.
Life can be hard, the daily grinds of work, paying bills, dealing with stress can sometimes feel like it drains all the magic out of us so every once in a while its wonderful to step outside the norm and let our fantasies come alive.I love how women of every age, size and shape let go of any inhabitiosn and really enjoy playing elaborate dress up, often inhabiting characters which are originally represented as  younger/slimmer even different genders, it doesn't matter, its a day of fantasy.

just your average Saturday
Our very first public Heroes vs Villains event in Liverpool last year was amazing. It was such a pleasure to be involved in such a creative enterprise and as a make up artist really lovely to be able to be imaginative and ramp up the crazy to warp speed.
The girls attending had told us in advance which characters they would like to become so myself, Lilly and Pooki-Rae spent a very enjoyable few weeks practising and perfecting various takes on these heroic homages. Sometimes our jobs rock!
The favourite looks I worked on were the Riddler and Queen Mab. I also adored creating Beast from X-men. I got through a lot of blue face paint!

The Riddler-The very talented Tracey made her dress and hat and even brought her own question mark staff

Bullseye-This was a perfect mix of comic book and sixties styling
The idea for this look came from the bright fur coat the girl owned. It then became one of the most striking looks of the day. Its brilliant when that happens.A tiny seed of an idea creates, well in this case a sexy version of Beast from X-Men
We were blown away by the costumes the girls created. Many of then were handmade or created from lots of different elements and it was hilarious to see them trooping in carrying swords, bowler hats and headpieces made of thorns.
Queen Mab from Shakespeare-My personal make up fave. So magical

This Roller derby chick made an awesome Batgirl

Nicky Rockets took some simply awe inspiring pictures and it was without doubt one of my favourite shoots to date.
Storm meets Ziggy Stardust

Yuki Most fruitful, a kick ass Manga character for the lovely Bobby-Lou (not your average baby bump picture)

If Ironman was a girl. This costume was a1950's inspired dress with all the Ironman elements and colours, genius

Harley Quinn as a showgirl. This very talented lady created her own rhinestone encrusted comic book/showgirl homage

We are really fortunate that we now have a regulars who have been to all of our "special" events and I'm always so excited to see what they pick to be.
In addition we also had some Pamperbox newbies who fancied unleashing their inner storybook and film characters and that was fantastic too.
Nicky Rockets is all about the props so a few weeks before the event (once we knew what everyone wanted to be) he started making things to accompany the hair, make up and costumes.

last year he made a huge horned headdress for Maleficent, centaur horns for our dark nymph, a globe for our Jereth Labyrinth themed character and huge playing cards  and a staff for the Queen of hearts.
On the day of the shoot he even climbed out of a window to grab just the right branch to make Bellatrix Lestranges wand (this kind of batty loveliness is one of the many reasons I married him)
Fran ready to become a Vampire Queen
Whilst he is fashioning things out of paper mache and hot glue I busy myself  with face sheets. These are so useful on busy days when you are creating a lot of make up looks.I make notes of which colours and shades I'm using, if I'm applying false eyelashes, and allows me to draw out the look before I even begin. I often tweak these a few times until they are spot on.

I also practice all the make up looks on myself (which led to a rather awkward instance of me answering the door as the queen of hearts with mini playing cards stuck to my cheeks-the DHL man  is quite used to me by now luckily)
Even though I just snap these on my camera (and they look totally weird with no costume and hair scraped back) they do give me an idea of what works and what doesn't so I don't waste any time on the day.
Valentina with her cute modern take on Tinkerbell

These events are  just brilliant. The girls attending are aways so lovely and so open to our crazy ideas. Its so amazing to see each transformation and  how their body language changes once they are "in character"
