Studio 8 premium plus size collection

Its always so wonderful when established brands finely see the light and  introduce plus sizes fashion into their ranges.
Phase Eight are launching a new stand-alone, plus-sized brand called ‘Studio 8’ for AW15 and it looks to be rather beautiful indeed.

Introducing Studio 8

The brand, available in size 16-24 (hopefully this will increase)  says it aims to "fill a gap at the premium end of the high street market by offering a full wardrobe solution spanning contemporary casual, work, and occasion pieces"
When they approached me and asked if I would be interested in trying some of the collection-well whats  a girl to do, I jumped at the chance and I'm so glad I did.Phase 8's collections have always been beautiful and this range also doesn't disappoint.

I spy a new plus size collection
I'm wearing the Becky dress which is made of a scuba fabric and it feels lovely. The digital print is really eye catching and little touches such as the concealed zip and soft pleating really emphasise the quality. Quite simply it feels well made.

Quality and beauty-everything I love in my clothes

Size wise I found it to be true-just. It was a little tight on the arms and chest but not enough to make me size up.

How gorgeous is this print
The hem hits well below the knee which is great and the nipped in waist create a lovely silhouette.
The price point is as you would expect higher than your usual fast fashion. This dress retails at £130 and that's typical of the collection. I would imagine this is the brand I would go to if I was looking for a killer interview outfit or something to wear at a wedding. Its luxury, not every day but how amazing to now have that option.
As you can see the weather here in West Kirby is just absolutely glorious. Its days like today that make me so grateful to live in such a beautiful place, beach at the bottom of my garden, where better to take some blog pictures of such a pretty dress.
The brand is already available  online and from August will also be in selected department stores including John Lewis and House of Fraser .
My shoes and sunglasses are both by Boohoo my handbag is by John Lewis

Curvety Plus Size Review

As much as I love fast fashion it is also nice that there are brands selling plus size clothes which are slightly more luxurious. Catering for when you require an outfit that's really special.

Curvety
Curvety a UK plus size fashion company are one such brand. Their site is full of the most beautiful unusual pieces but where they really excel is with their collection of dresses.
Curvety very kindly asked me to choose one to review and I immediately fell in love with the Angie dress with Rosebud print

The Rosebud print Angie dress

This dress feels really beautifully made and promises a "no gape fit" at the bust line which turned out to be surprisingly true. The neckline is plunging enough to feel sexy but I wasn't spilling out at all.The print as you can see is really beautiful. Its definitely a show stopper

the "no gape" fit actually works
It has a lovely cream lining and under slip so it gives a really nice smooth fit and little ties at the sleeves which end at the crook of the elbow.
Curvety do use duel sizing which I am never a fan of but they are quite generous so this is the size 18/20 and fits really nicely. My only complaint is that the arms are elasticated at the bottom and were slightly tight but other than that I really liked it.

I wore this rather special frock to perform the ribbon cutting ceremony for a beautiful new store ( which I will be blogging about later this week) and I felt very nice indeed.
My red patent bag, white boohoo wedges and a slick of Beseme lipstick completed the look and I was ready to go and perform shop opening duties.

Jess and the bandits #stylehasnosize

You may remember last month I attended an event by Evans to launch their #stylehasnosize range of bags and tee-shirts, the proceeds of which go to childrens charity The Rainbow trust. See that post here
This week  Jessica Clemmons, who fronts the band Jess and the Bandits has  been unveiled as the ambassador for #StyleHasNoSize, with the bands upcoming single Nitty Gritty central to the campaign.

Jess in her #stylehasnosize tee

Evans are currently running a competition to win the chance to appear in the official video for the track, with entries being built around body positive mantras.
I caught up with Jess and asked her the things I wanted to know.I was going to ask her all the usual questions but really do we all want to read a glorified press release? not really. Instead I got to the heart of the matter. Move over Paxman.

Prepare for a Betty style interrogation-questions about spirit animals and pizza toppings standard.

Betty: If you had one superpower, what would it be?
Jessica: To heal people and take away terminal illnesses.

Betty: Heels or flats?
Jessica: Oh that's tough. Um I would like to say heels but I am a bit clumsy and have been known to fall a lot. How about we say wedges. The best of both worlds.
neither

Betty: What do you love on your pizza?
Jessica: I am so boring with my pizza. I am a pepperoni kind of girl and that's about it. Maybe a few peppers to make it spicy. Now I'm wanting pizza!

Betty: Diamonds or Pearls?
Jessica: Can't a girl have both? You can't have too many of either if you ask me. Plus it really depends on the outfit. I love how pearls can instantly make anything look classy.

Betty: If you could sing a duet with anyone, who would it be?
Jessica: I'm a huge fan of Sam Smith. I think his voice is incredible. We both have big, soulful voices so a duet with him could be a lot of fun.

Ready to couple up?
Betty: What’s your spirit animal?
Jessica: I took one of those Facebook quizzes a while back and it told me my spirit animal was a bear. Not sure that's true. I like to think maybe a tiger or something like that. An animal that is tough and strong but has elegance and beauty.
My name is Jess-I eat Bandits

Betty: A historical figure you’d love to have coffee with?
Jessica: I would love to have coffee with Thomas Jefferson, one of America's Founding Fathers. I think it would be incredible to know what it must have been like to start a nation from nothing and to see what he thinks of what has become of it.

Betty: What’s your favourite swear word?
Jessica: Ok this might be lame but I actually rarely swear. So much so that if something slips out when I'm, oh I don't know, falling in heels per say, people that know me are shocked.

BettyWhat’s your favourite smell?
Jessica: My mother's cooking! That woman can do some serious cooking.

Betty: When was the last time you cried?
Jessica: Last night. We lost my aunt to cancer and had a celebration of her life. It was emotional but wonderful!

Betty: When were you happiest?
Jessica: There are lots of times when I've been my happiest. Probably when I'm on stage or when I'm hope with my entire family.
Happiest on stage

Betty: Finish this sentence Next year I plan….
Jessica: On world domination! If that doesn't happen, I plan to be touring all over Europe and the U.S. with Jess and the Bandits, working on our next album and who knows, maybe even a fashion line with Evans!

The illness of the easily distracted: ICBA Syndrome

Some days I have to fight really hard not to succumb to the terrible life sapping, emotional crippling condition known as “I can’t be arsed” syndrome (or ICBA as its commonly referred to by its legions of suffers). This is a behavioural tic seen most often in the self-employed but striking many others especially when housework, form filling or other boring tasks loom.
I simply can't be arsed
My symptoms sometimes vary in their severity but will usually follow a similar pattern.
Watching reruns of old programmes on 4OD in an attempt to avoid a particularly depressing task. During one particularly bad spell I did the whole first series of No Angels in a day-I was if I remember rightly avoiding a massive pile of ironing (this is often a trigger for ICBA syndrome)
Spending far too long on social networking sites. When you have wasted half an hour flicking idly through someone you hardly knows holidays snaps rather than doing your tax return you may well be suffering from ICBA syndrome.

“Busying “yourself with vaguely pointless minutia. These can include lining up toiletries neatly in your bathroom cabinet, matching up socks in the laundry or (as displayed during one particularly bad episode)  “cleaning up” your sky plus programs list even when you have only used up thirty percent of your limit.

I woud love to help but i simply can't be arsed

“I can’t be arsed” syndrome can strike anybody regardless of class, race or religion. Having suffered from attacks for as long as I can remember I now have a few tried and tested methods for recovery.

I allow myself an hour of gentle non-demanding activity or to use the correct term “titting about” This is a good way to ease yourself into whatever it is which has triggered an attack.
After my final cup of tea and much like pulling off a plaster I force myself to get to the task in hand. It’s imperative that all distractions are removed to fully recover. Close your social networking browsers, better still if doing a non computer orientated task turn off the laptop and if need be hide it. Turn off the radio especially anything which may be described as “debate” you will get dragged in and decide you simply “must” ring Jeremy Vine to contribute to the raging argument about the lesser spotted sparrow menacing our bird boxes. Take yourself away from other diversions such as food, cat stroking or deadheading the roses and JUST GET ON WITH IT!!!!
Next support meeting for ICBA anonymous will take place probably at about the same time I have a deadline. See you then!
