Tropical Print Harem Trousers by Yours Clothing

Last month I attended the Yours Summer Clothing event (see post here) which featured so much beautiful plus size fashion in a variety of  bright summer prints and colourways. It was all rather lovely.
Tropical print trousers are go

One of my favourite items was the Tropical print Harem trousers I loved both the design and cut and couldn't wait to try them. Well they are now available and guess what they look just as good on as they did on the hanger.

City styling for plus size chic

In the past I always avoided harem pants, scared that they wouldn't be tremendously flattering as I carry a lot of weight around my middle or worse that I would look like I should be in an MC Hammer video (that's a reference for all the over thirties reading) but guess what, these look fabulous.

Tropical plus size brights

I'm wearing a hot pink longline vest (although I have tucked it in as I didn't want anything to distract from these trousers) and a black edge to edge Jersey boy jacket with pockets which are also by Yours  and am feeling fabulous.Everything is in a size 20 and is very true to size. The trousers have loads of stretch in them.

I really love this silhouette and am finding I am wearing it a lot at the moment. The casual trousers and vest top are comfortable and not too try hard but the boyfriend jacket pulls it all together and makes it look super stylish.
I'm wearing wide fit court shoes by Evans and my statement necklace is by Dorothy Perkins. You can get a similar satchel here
I'm so happy to be adding all this colour to my plus size wardrobe-its the totally tropical taste of fat fabulous fashion!

How To Apply False Eyelashes

This post and vlog is by popular demand. So many of you have told me how you struggle to apply false lashes and how once they are applied they are terribly uncomfortable. This ladies, is a crime. Nothing makes you look more glam than a set of full on false lashes and once you know a few tricks it couldn't be easier to use them.

How To Apply False Eyelashes
Lets Get Lashed

First of all here are my five Lash commandments

Rule #1-Beware poor quality lashes. This doesn't automatically mean you have to spend a fortune on them but some super cheap sets are just horrible quality with rigid lash lines which wont adhere properly to your lid.My absolute favourites are by Ardell

How To Apply False Eyelashes

Rule # 2 Never use the glue that comes with the lashes. Even quite high end lashes tend to have dreadful glue. Nothing will hamper your efforts to apply false eyelashes more than using rubbish glue. I recommend Duo its amazing, dries clear and stops the ends of lashes "pinging" off.

How To Apply False Eyelashes
Rule #3 Break the spine of your lashes. This sounds scary but all I mean is gently bend your lashes around your finger or the end of a make up brush. this will make the lash more pliable and fit your lid more comfortably.

Rule#4 Cut your lashes down to size. Lashes come in one length but everyones eyes are different sizes. Hold the lash to your lash line and ensure they are a good fit. if they are over long they will either look droopy or poke you in the inner eye. Always cut from the outward (thickest) end of the lash.

How To Apply False Eyelashes

Rule #5 Don't use too much glue. So many eye lash tutorials show the lash line covered in glue. You don't need this much. A thin line against the lash line with an extra blob at either end to anchor them on is more than enough. If you find you are having to colour in your eyeliner after applying your lashes to cover the glue you are using too much. it looks matted and is a massive false lash fail.

How to apply the lashes.
Once the glue is on your lash leave it to go tacky for a few seconds.
Then gently place the lash on your lash line.

Close your eye and then gently push each end of the false lash down.

Once in place press the ends of the false lashes so they are further pressed into the lash line.

For ease Ive also filmed a vlog of myself applying lashes. I hope it helps any of you who have previously struggled. If you have any questions just leave them in the comments section.

Dropping The F Bomb: I'm fat, not curvy

Fat, Curvy, Plus Size Call me what you want, just call me baby

A while ago a meme floated around my social media feed stating “I’m fat not curvy”
Quite a few body positive writers and bloggers  posted it, reinforcing the fact that they didn't need to be pandered to by a world who considers being called fat to be among the worst insult you can give to someone and I loved them for it.
But whilst I basked in the confidence of this great statement it did also trouble me.
You see when it comes to embracing the F word Rome was not built in a day and each person’s journey from self-loathing to air punching acceptance is unique.
I’m lucky that a combination of age, being part of the plus size blogging community and my desire to create a better world for my daughter means the word FAT has absolutely no power over me.
I happily refer to myself as fat and when someone else does even as a negative I do not give a damn. But I haven’t always been like this.
118 Fat Bitch-you called?
Time was that a group of boys in a car shouting “fat bitch” at me had me hiding under the duvet for weeks and I know from running many, many workshops that the word fat still makes a lot of plus size women flinch.
They associate it with abuse, with feeling loathed and shunned and they just cannot bear to hear it or have it used about them.
Often these women are so damaged by the years of body shaming they have endured that the first step to rebuilding themselves is to look at their bodies not as  “fat” (which for them also means ugly and disgusting) but as rubenesque, as soft and abundant and yes "curvy"
11'000 years ago-My body shape was worshipped
Taking an historical perspective is often soothing. Realising that your body shape has  been celebrated since we could carve figures from stone can go some way to put a salve on the constant wounding the modern world can inflict on women over a certain size.
taking a look at how Women used to be revered
Reprogramming your response to something that for so long has been used as stick to metaphorically beat you with takes time and whilst I believe its vitally important that we constantly push further to take back power from the fat haters who are endemic within some parts of society  and  social media feeds I also think we must be gentle with those who for whatever reason are not quite there yet (and might never be)
Word
Referring to yourself as “curvy” is not a cop out. It’s often also true. I’m fat but also quite curvy. My waist to hip ratio means I have a fairly classic hourglass figure, this hourglass may be wearing a size 20 but I do go in and out. My blog name includes the word curves in it because the curves of a woman’s body whether she be a dainty size 6 or a luscious size 30 are to me so beautiful and I have handed the word “curvy” to many a plus size woman as a way for her to talk about her body in a loving joyful way rather than in a hateful abusive way.
So if you are comfortable referring to yourself as fat that’s awesome, if it makes you flinch and you prefer the term “curvy’ or “plus size” that’s fab too.
Its sad that we even have to discuss body size labels but to to totally ignore them unless you live on a deserted island is unrealistic and by confronting the reality of the language we all use daily to define our physical selves chips away at the accepted idea of what is beautiful.
You can be fat And curvy
What’s important is that you never again stand in front of a mirror using words like poison arrows and hating on yourself because its how you were trained.
My name is Perelandra. I am Fat, Curvy, Plus size and Fabulous.

#stylehasnosize

Last week I was invited to the very beautiful Sanderson hotel by Evans  the Plus size fashion brand to celebrate the launch of a new bag and tee shirt promoting their #stylehasnosize manifesto.

Tom Doran, Evans very cool head of PR (you might remember he was featured on the recent channel 4 documentary plus size wars) told me how at Evans amazing plus size fashion show at London fashion week they were using slogans to get the models and creatives involved into the right mindset "Style has no size" was one that stuck and seemed to represent the brands ethos.
They are selling limited edition tee shirts and bags in store from June with money from sales going to the childrens charity "The rainbow trust"
This slogan is about celebrating women of all shapes and sizes and is truly inclusive which is such a positive thing. I love it.

The coolest tees

A few weeks ago they headed to New York and took some amazing photos of blogger Nadia Aboulhosn wearing the tee.How great does she look wow!

The event was really beautiful, great energy, full of beautiful stylish plus size babes and it was really lovely to be part of it. I caught up with some of favourite blogging pals Becky Elena, Emma and Rosie.

Blogger babes
I know I say it often but meeting these women has hands down been the best thing to ever come out of blogging. They are truly lovely people and they make every blogging event so much fun.

For the event I wore my Polly Grace Eve trousers (be sure to use my 20% discount at Polly Grace by using the code betty20) my fave top from UK indie designers 1 of 1 design  a past season jacket by Simply be which isn't in stock anymore but this one is similar, a really gaudy necklace which I picked up at the local market and my new Sketchers

Plus size outfit of the day

I was really glad I kept it all so simple as it was rather hot and sweaty in London that night as you can probably see from my melty make up face.
Of course after an hour or so of behaving like grown ups it seemed only proper that we would go and take lots of silly pictures in the frankly gorgeous but bonkers Sanderson hotel.

Thankyou for inviting me Evans I had  a lovely evening and will be using my #stylehasnosize bag at every opportunity and of course picking up that rather cool tee in June.
