Yours Clothing Summer Event

Last week I attended a fab little fashion party hosted by Yours Clothing at the Dorchester hotel. They were showcasing their summer collections and it didn't disappoint.
The whole event was just beautiful. The Dorchester is like something from another time, huge floral displays, ornate furniture and quiet efficient staff making us feel like luxury bitches as we scoffed cakes with real flowers on and drank lots of tea.

Citrus Brights for S/S 2015 *
Even the breakfast was fancy
It wasn't just the venue that was gorgeous the clothes were pretty tasty too. It was a riot of citrus brights, tropical prints, pretty dresses and snappy swimwear.

Summer is covered

As well as the season staples you would expect from this brand (linen pants, cute blouses and cute frocks) there were also great fashion forward pieces including floral joggers and a fab  acid denim playsuit which I think every plus size fashion blogger there myself included is desperate to get our mitts on.

My favourite picks of the day  included this gorgeous black chiffon shirt which would look amazing with just about anything.

The tropical print pants were lovely. I think would be so great as the weather gets warmer and can be dressed up with heels and a clutch or be casual with sandals and a tee.

The shoes were beautiful, studded gladiator sandals  and sequinned wedges, its such a joy to find great shoes in wide fittings  and I was loving the neon bags

Loving the shoe action *

This Indigo Blue denim jacket is definitely something I want to add to my spring wardrobe. Its such a nice shape and would look so good over this seasons maxi dresses.

I loved all these colours

Definitely one of my favourite pieces was the nude and black oriental print skirt This looks so expensive and is beautiful on.Here it is on the awesome Ms Tess.

All in all there was some beautiful fashion so its looking to be a great season at Yours Clothing which makes me very happy indeed. Whilst I was at the Dorchester I caught up with Rachel who is Editor of Vintage Life magazine who I ocacsionally write for. She fitted in perfectly, how cute is she in her pearls and jade green gloves!

Voguing at the Dorch

Catching up with some of my fave blogger babes was as usual lovely and I had a cheeky glass of wine with quite a few of them afterwards-would be rude not to really.
All photos with a * taken by the lovely Rosie who is always my wing woman at these events and is scrumptious-check out her blog I insist.

Breaking The Plus Size Rules #WeAreTheThey

Over the last week in response to the singer Jamelias very silly comments on the TV show "Loose Women" suggesting women of certain ends of the size spectrum shouldn't be catered for clothing wise on the high street, a great hashtag has been lighting up twitter.
#WeAreTheThey refers to the fact that when someone says "they" should not have access to clothes, the people being singled out are in fact you and me if you are over a size 20. We are indeed the "They" the media loves to demonise, health shame and disrespect.

To keep the momentum going Debz who started the hashtag has suggested that today we discuss the so called plus size fashion no nos.
In fashion as with most things there is a perceived idea of how you should put certain items together (if you show cleavage, don't show too much leg, never mix spots and stripes)
When you add being plus sized to the equation it seems there are even more nuggets of " wisdom" many of which are regularly shared on make over shows and in magazines. Here are just a few:
  • Avoid horizontal stripes as they make you look "wider"
  • Wear black as its "slimming"
  • Stick to block colours. Any thing too busy will "emphasise your shape"
  • Wear tunic tops to "hide problem areas"
  • Bootcut trousers will "lengthen" short legs
My shape is "emphasised" so what?
I absolutely hate these kinds of "style rules" and here's why:
If you are a size 16 or above wearing top to toe black is not going to magically make you appear like a size eight, sure darker colours make you look slightly slimmer but that's treating your shape and size as a problem to be solved. Its not.
I've got very short legs, boot cut jeans do not make them look longer and guess what they don't need to look longer. They are fine and dandy just as they are-short, dappled with cellulite with thighs that fit together like pieces of a chubby jigsaw.
Wear tunic tops and bootcut jeans because you like them, not because you have been told they will disguise your size or shape.
Please don't think I'm being insensitive to any plus sized hottie buying clothes with ingenious cuts and cunning camouflage that's not my message. My point is ladies whatever your size OWN IT

Own your plus size style

Please lets all make a pact starting from today that we will never ever again buy an item of clothing because we think it disguises our size.
Lets buy clothes that we truly adore, in colours and patterns that make our heart beat too fast, in styles that make us walk slightly taller because we feel great.
Wear stripes, wear prints, wear whatever you damn well like and the next time you see something on a rail that you love but then start to pass by because "it just wont suit my figure" go and try it on. I insist.

Lets buy clothes we adore

Fashion rules are made to be broken. Don't let other peoples hang ups or the medias obsession with size dictate how you dress and live your life.
Sure I realise that I look slightly "thinner" when I wear black leggings, a black top and a black skirt but I don't want to spend my life looking like an Italian widow, and don't try and tell me that I should express myself simply with accessories. The top to toe black look with a "statement" necklace just doesn't cut it. I want to be a riot of colour and pattern and if I can find it in my size I'm going to wear it.

I want to be a riot of colour and pattern

So like large bangered butterflies breaking out of a stretchy fabric cocoon lets all get giddy with the possibilities that plus sized fashion anarchy brings. Race you to the acid yellow horizontal striped crop top!

Tonight on twitter post up your photo of you breaking the plus size rules and don't forget to use the hashtag #WeAreTheThey

The Tess Holliday Dress By Yours Clothing

A few weeks ago I met Tess Holliday (see post here) the inspiring plus size model as part of her work for the brand Yours clothing. Tess has modeled lots of lovely items for them but one dress is really synonymous with her, so much in fact that the brand are calling it the "Tess Dress"
Tess Holliday in the dress named after her

Its a doll of a frock so I was chuffed  when I received it a few weeks ago, I opted for the navy and white colorway as thought it looked quite french and retro. Whilst I'm not quite as sassy as Queen Tess   it looks really cute on and I'm rather pleased indeed.

Feeling chic in Navy and white stripes

I took these pictures on my local beachfront and it was very windy.I spent a lot of time trying not to flash the local residents but it also added to the fun almost cartoon quality of this outfit.

Plus size fashion from Yours Clothing

The dress is a great plus size shape, particularly if like me you are quite round at the middle. its comfortable and very true to size with a lot of stretch so actually  a great frock for a warm day.Its goes to a size 32 This is the size 20.

Easy Breezy Plus size style

I rather like the  neckline which makes a nice change from the usual V neck you would expect with this style and the length which hits past the knee (although that's hard to see on these photos as the wind was blowing so much)

Simple accessories are all this outfit needs

I have kept the accessories simple, wide fit kitten heels, a pink Birkin style bag and sunglasses Its all I need, that and having natures very own wind machine are helping me look chic and fun. It's plus size fashion with a girly edge. Perfect.

Plus size blogger beach babe
I'm loving not only how sweet this dress looks but how beautiful the Wirral Coastline is. How lucky am I to have this on my doorstep.
