Plumpy Paws: The Plus Size Pussy by Nicky Rockets

Meet Plumpy Paws
This week I am so excited to introduce you to the newest design from my tee shirt brand Nicky Rockets
I am absolutely  mad for cats. My mum is a bona fida crazy cat lady (I think she has six at the time of writing this) and I have never had a home without at least one kitty in it. I currently have Barbs, Bandit and Dolly and quite frankly they rock my world.

Kitty's rock my world

Me and Nicky Rockets have been talking for a while about creating a design using a cat. The name Plumpy Paws came after we were told our very scraggy Tortoiseshell cat needed to lose weight (she is tiny, it was crazy) and we were laughing that nowadays its not just plus size women who get fat shamed at GP surgeries (got a verruca its because you are a fatty) but even our pets are on the receiving end  of fat "health concern" trolling.

What do you mean this wasnt the "Plus size pussy" you were looking for

So here she is -Plumpy Paws a beautiful fluffy round kitty wearing a donut as a collar and a skull and crossbones on her tail.
This blog often gets found by people looking for "Plus size pussy" so for once I'm happy to oblige.

These are limited edition, cost £15  and come in sizes small-5XL and in Lady fit, slashed neck and regular tee design so their is a size and shape for everybody.
You can buy your very own Plumpy Paws Here

London Fashion Week: The Key Trends And Plus Size Style Steals

Over the last week London has been abuzz with all things fashion as the great and the good have gathered for London fashion week. Here are my my personal favorite to emerge on the catwalks and some cunning plus size dupes so you can inject a little high fashion styling into your wardrobe this season.

Erdem

Lets kick off with possibly my favorite collection of the week, Erdem was all faded grandeur, candy coloured shades with heirloom styling. Brocades, velvet's, frayed edged and fifties shapes. Exquisite.

Plus size Style Steal
This look is all about texture and print so look for rich opulent designs in vaguely vintage inspired cuts.

Giles

The Giles show was sinister, gothic and darkly stylish. Crisp ruffled collars and bows stopped it looking too Wednesday Adams chic and the use of ruffles and pleats gave the clothes a fabulous tailored quality.

Translating The Style
This look is pared back, chic but with a romantic almost Victorian vibe. If black is too intense go for  softer navy and if it all feels too heavy for spring swap out cottons for lace.

Burberry Prorsum
Burberry was boho chic the luxury version. Floaty fabrics, empire lines and some beautiful patchwork effect prints. This is definitely one of the more wearable trends. It has a definite sixties flower child feeling to it with the models sporting softly waved hair and sack bags.

Translating The Style
This trend is  a bit of a no brainer, especially if you are ready for softer fabrics and less structured designs going into spring. If it feels too summery right now combine it with long line cardigans and ankle boots.

Mulberry

If you are a fan of soft greys, taupes and delicate pinks then Mulberry was the show for you. A-line dresses with black leaf designs and a beautifully simple jumpsuit suggested we are in for a classic and simple 2015 where its all in the cut and colour.

Translating The Style
This is the perfect trend for embracing spring coloyurs. Think of  a Farrow and Ball paint chart and buy a few items in duck egg blue or shell pink. The jumpsuit is a real investment piece and sees no sign of falling out of fashion. Its often an item that plus size women are slightly wary of but actually suits everyone.

Topshop Unique

Topshop Unique was very English Rose with its styling. Tweedy check was the fabric de jour which was seen on pinafores and coats. Fur is as popular as ever (which is great news if like me you are not quite ready to give up your faux fur stoles) and dainty embroidered flowers on crisp white also suggested its going to be a very romantic Spring.

Translating The Style
This a great trend for getting your print on. Use a palette of soft oranges, creams and yellows and indulge in paisleys, checks and florals.

Its  a great time for fashion right now (Milan looks amazing) never feel that the trends that emerge aren't for you because of your size or shape. The looks displayed are simply indicators of fabrics, shapes and textures that are sure to be filling stores everywhere and with some clever shopping you can be strutting you LFW style by Monday.

Madonna Takes a Tumble And Ageism Goes Into Overdrive

So last night Madonna fell over during her dance routine at the Brits.
Its always weirdly shocking when you see an artist stumble or fall during  such carefully choreographed shows and it received a lot of coverage.
As someone who falls over a lot (I am so clumsy) I know that it is often met with hilarity and this doesn't bother me in the least, I laugh at my own crapfalls too. To this end I didn't have any problem with people laughing and saying they found it funny.
I actually felt sorry for Madonna, I adore Madge and had seen her on instagram earlier saying she was nervous about the performance. It also looked like it actually hurt so yet again whilst I wasn't outraged by people replaying the video and laughing it felt a bit cruel.

Taking a tumble
What I found really unacceptable (and something I feel happens around Madonna constantly) was the casual use of  ageist sexism inherent in a lot of comments she received.
Falling over was nothing to do with her age, Madonna is in amazing shape not just for her age, for any age. Madonna isn't a great performer for her age, she is a great performer for any age. She fell because part of her costume got caught. This wasn't anything to do with the date on her passport. The end.

Blame the cape, not her age

Yes Madonna fell over but guess what? she got up again, dusted herself off and carried on performing.
The comments she receives every day about her appearance and age would break a lesser person and the same rhetoric just doesn't seem to be applied to male performers as they grow older. No one is telling Paul MCCartney to "grow old gracefully" as he bops around with Kanye and Rhianna and he has a good few years on Madonna and quite right too.Why should anyone stop what they love because of the year they were born. Its nuts.
Artistic freedom, the ability to sing dance, perform, love fashion, be sexual, be silly be daring doesn't just end once you hit a certain age.
Its ridiculous to say an artist who is still getting booked to perform at the Brits and no doubt outselling many of the other artists at that event (despite her "dwindling" sales) should stop, why would she? why should she?

Not just good for age, good for any age
Endlessly criticising Madonna based on her age, calling her an "old hag" who should just "give up already" fuels the idea that women past the age of 40 should just crawl into a holes and die. It promotes the notion that females past their fertility prime are no longer relevant, artistic and even if they process a magnificent body honed through years of dance, yoga and discipline should "put it way"
What should be put away once and for all is the sexist, narrow ideas surrounding Women, sexuality and age.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
Confucius

The Oscars 2015: Who wore what and some great plus size dupes

I am obsessed with films. Seeing who picks up an Oscar for cinematography, direction or acting always fascinates me and whilst I may not be dedicated enough to stay up late and watch them any more, I always log onto my laptop as soon as I wake up to see the results.
I also love seeing what people wear on the red carpet. Award ceremonies are such an opportunity for designers to display their craft and often the clothes worn are just breathtaking.
Here are my favourites from this year and some fairly awesome dupes I have found in fatty size. Yes my fuller figured brethren, we shall all go to the ball and look absolutely banging as we do so:

Margot Robbie in Saint Lauren

People can be a bit snotty about stars "playing it safe" when they opt for an all black outfit but when the cut and draping is as flawless as this, they should just shut the hell up.Everything about this outfit from the simple accessories to the cooler than cool bobbed hair is perfection.

Rosamund Pike- Red Givenchy dress

I loved Gone Girl, I love Givenchy and this dress is just beautiful. Breaking all the so called modesty rules it flashes leg, shoulders and is the colour of a burlesque dancers garter. The end result, wow!

Faith Hill in J Mendel
There is something so beautiful and simple about a white floor length gown and I am digging the vaguely 1920s feel of Faith Hills outfit. The plunging neckline and string of pearls stops it being too demure. Sort of good girl gone bad. The best sort.

Plus Size Dupe-Joanna Hope £130

Patricia Arquette in Rosetta Getty
Patricia looks like a monochrome superhero in this dress. Loving the one shoulder cape action and the fact her hair is exactly the same style as I wear to keep it from getting wet in the bath.

Keira Knightly in Valentino

I am so crazy for this dress. The embellishment, the writing, it really is like something out of  a midsummers night dream. If this is what red carpet maternity wear looks like I think everyone should get up the duff immediately-including the men.

Rita Ora in Marchesca
The colour of this gown is just so good. Its perfect for the Oscars and is a real Hollywood royalty shade. Liz Taylor often wore it and if its good enough for Rita and Liz its good enough for us (I wore it at the Plus size awards-always ahead of the herd doncha know)

And the winner is...
Yes I am giving my own awards for the outfits that made my heart sing.

Gaga in Azzedine Alaïa
Structured, twinkly with red "hands that do dishes" gloves. I love this dress so much I want to take it on a mini break and woo it with boat rides and massages.

Scarlett Johansson in Atelier Verscae
The colour of sea foam, this is what Mermaids who trade in their tails for legs wear to the shops.Scarlett looks like she should be emerging from the waves, a hapless fisherman caught in her net (how we all want to die basically)

Kelly Osbourne in Rita Vinieris
Classic hollywood styling with a punk rock sensibility. I always heart what kelly wears and love that even when she is all red carpet ready she looks like she may have a pocket knife in her clutch. Bravo kells.

What were your favourites?
