Floral print midi dress by Scarlet and Jo Review

This time of year is one of my all time favourites. The leaves are brown, the air is crisp and cold, and excitement about all the fun and festivities around Christmas starts to kick in.
I always feel that the build up to Christmas starts with the school fair at my daughters school. It is a total festive delight, mulled wine, crafts, mistletoe, even Santa and his reindeer  make an appearance. The Parent association work tirelessly to ensure it always wonderful and I for one am always so grateful.
This year the weather was perfect. The park I walk through everyday was looking particularly beautiful so I thought I would leave the rolling grounds of Pamper Towers and take  a few pictures in the wonder that is Ashton Park. The squirrels were mightily impressed.

Today's look is all about 1940s inspired glamour

This floral print midi dress £45 is by Scarlet and Jo and is just the perfect outfit for today. Scarlet and Jo excel at these 1940's inspired tea dresses and this one with its mesh detailing at the neckline and tie waist is both comfortable and pretty.

Keeping with the vaguely vintage feel of this frock I have pin curled my hair and swapped out my usual shocking pink lipstick for some classic red pigment in besemes red hot red shade.
Beseme Red lipstick for vintage lips

As its rather chilly in the peoples republic of Wecca I'm wearing ankle boots by fashionworld (which are thoroughly caked in mud as they are my go to pair for walking Mister Truffles) and one of my many faux fur coats.
I'm a fun fur leopard

This one is a grey snow leopard print and I got it from a discount store called TJ Hughes last year. As soon as I spied it on the rack (the last one ) I honed on it with a stealthiness not usually associated with a woman of my size. The other lady who was about to approach it never stood a chance.
Longer than a midi on me

This dress is described as a midi dress but on me its mid ankle but remember I am only five foot three. The sizing on it is true and its stretchy so no need to size up, it perfect.
My outfit matches my environment

I don't usually like wearing anything with brown in but for this frock I make an exception and its lovely how it coordinates with the brown leaves in the park, yes I am accessorising my outfit with nature, what of it!

The British Plus Size Awards 2014

Every industry has that one event. The night where the great and the good gather and take a moment to acknowledge the movers and the shakers, the deserving and the promising.
Musicians have the Brits, film makers have the Oscars and the plus size industry has the British Plus size awards. A night to celebrate the best and brightest in the world of curves from clothes, accessories, magazines and bloggers, as well as acknowledging those making a difference in business and entertainment.
Always held at the prettiest venues in London this year’s event didn’t disappoint. The Raddison Blu Portman Square was suitably twinkly and beautiful and the perfect backdrop for all the evenings glamour.
As is often the way with any kind of award show the biggest question on everyone’s lips was “what will everyone be wearing” and it was a veritable fashion show.
Blogger Babes

If anyone ever needs convincing that plus size women can exude style and glamour they should simply spend a few minutes on the plus size awards red carpet. From jewel encrusted ball gowns, beautifully cut wiggle dresses to edgy high fashion the only thing the looks shared was how fabulous they were.
Anna Sholtz, Joanne Hope, Simply be and Jaques Vert were responsible for quite  a few of the looks as were Scarlet and Jo, Miss-guided,Taking Shape and of course Asos Curve.
My outfit consisted of a midnight blue satin frock with a polka dot shrug which was by Carolinas Dress Room my accessories included the most beautiful jewel box clutchbag and diamante court shoes by Simply be. I was channelling some real old school glamour and felt like a fat Liz Taylor-it was wonderful.
A table of big fat sassy

Even more wonderful was spending the evening with my lovely friends Becky, Rivkie, Kate and Elena. A finer group of women you would struggle to find. I also had baba with me and Nicky Rockets was there taking photos so it was a real family affair.
With the cutest girl in the room

The evening was compared by the dashing (and very funny ) Matt Johnson who had every man, woman and child eating out of his hand by the end of the night.
As well as being served a delicious three course feast the line up of acts kept everyone laughing, dancing and thoroughly entertained.
Matt Johnson-winning everyone over

Highlights for me included the stunning  UK Big ballet company. Graceful, enchanting and totally life affirming I loved them.
The UK Big Ballet Company-stunning

Music was provided by Bethany Churcher whose voice is just stunning and the always gorgeous Rosie O Sullivan who treated us to three tracks from her upcoming album.
Bethany Churcher-beautiful

Comedienne Ashleigh P Owen was just hilarious, I may never get the image of her twerking in a tutu out of my mind (and I don’t think I want to)
As good as the talent was it was the awards that had everyone sitting up in their seats like Meer cats and what a night it was.
Ashleigh P Owen-she is hilarious

Yours Clothing stormed it, picking up both Best online retailer and best swimwear range, Asos Curve picked up best online retailer and best designer went to Lovedrobe.
And it wasn’t just the big brands picking up gongs, Chunky Cat cuddler won best accessories and bridal label Curves and couture waltzed off with best bridal range (picking up the award in full wedding dresses, what’s not to love)
Lingerie brand Curvy Kate also had a good night winning both “best lingerie brand” and “Best lingerie blog” it’s fair to say their table had a lot to celebrate.
Keeping the glamour setting to 11 was Hayley Hasselhoff (yes the Hoffs daughter) who won plus size model of the year. She is so stunning and ridiculously down to earth. A total babe.
Hayley Hoff-what a babe

The best event recognition was given to Plus North who were so utterly deserving and defiantly got one of the loudest cheers in the room.
Actress Cheryl Fergison (best known as Heather Trott in Enders)  gave the award to the events co founder Becky Barnes (aka Mrs Bebe) and was absolutely hilarious.

Having increased the amount of blog awards up for grabs the best new blogger award went to “Pretty Big Butterflies” Best fashion blog went to “She might be Loved” and best blog went to me!!!!
This photo totally sums up my pure joy and disbelief at winning the award

I  was totally stunned and may have gone a little bit Gwyneth when I collected my award. Sorry everyone. Thank goodness I wore waterproof mascara.Thankyou so much to everyone who voted for me. I am so, so happy and can't stop looking at my award. I know some bloggers get lots of stuff like this or don't need the affirmation but I am over the moon.

Yes I am crying-no I am not sorry

The final award for biggest achievement went to plus size model Sarah Hadzipasic whose genuine shock and delight had everyone filling up.
The lovely Sarah H

Not only was it a wonderful evening celebrating everything positive and wonderful about this plus size world we inhabit, the night also raised money for the charity CRY which stands for “cardiac risk in the young”
Throughout the evening patrons from the charity as well as parents of children who had sadly lost their lives to young cardiac death gave us little snippets about what the charity does and why it’s so important. It’s such an amazing cause so kudos to the Plus size awards for introducing it to their audience.

Posing with my award

The night ended with the wonderfully camp Blobbie Williams belting out some tunes and amazingly he really did sound exactly like the real thing. There were some very exciting shapes being thrown to “Let me entertain you” which was my cue to turn into a pumpkin.
All in all a great night. We came, we saw, we rocked-Plus size and proud. Roll on next year.

The Curvy Time Traveller by Nicky Rockets

As a massive Doctor Who fan its always interesting every few years when they pick a new actor to play the Time Lord.
Debates become heated, should this Doctor be black? A woman? gay? Will the orphan of Gallifrey always be a white man?
Well so far the answer to that appears to be yes but the idea of a new time traveller fired up mine and Nicky Rockets imagination. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a female time traveller? Even better what if she was fat, feisty with oodles of attitude and unruly hair?

The new design

We may be waiting a long time for this to happen in the BBC series but in Curverella world this is already reality. Let me introduce you to our brand new teeshirt design “The Curvy Time Traveller”
Hopping between time zones like a sassy intergalactic warrior Curverella is one day taking tea with the Pankhursts, then dropping in on Cleopatra for eyeliner tips before going for a swift half with Anais Nin.

Its behind you

Sure she has seen all the amazing moments’ recorded about men by men but she is just as interested in checking out those shadowy historical women who were making waves all on their own.
If you look closely at historical works you will see her, reclining on a chaise as painted by Ruben, carved in stone (venus figurine anyone?), and Betty Boop? Well lets just say Curverella was going through her flapper stage when that cartoon was first animated.
Some things are bigger on the outside too

Her faithful assistant is always a pug (who do you think introduced them to Royalty, it was Curverella during one of her flings with a prince) and whilst she always uses her ability to time travel to do good, she is not above going back in time to pick up a discontinued lipstick shade either.
To say we have had fun with this idea has been an understatement. Spending a day at a local Doctor Who exhibition taking photographs with Weeping Angels and Darleks was without doubt one of my favourite days at work ever. I hope you love this design as much as I do.
Weeping Angel Attack

We are offering it as a regular teeshirt, slash neck and lady fit in sizes small- 5XL . The perfect stocking filler to the Time traveller in your life or a pre Christmas treat to all you sassy Curverellas out there. You can buy it here and its £15 and you get a free sonic screwdriver toy with our compliments.

Feeling Supersonic

Remember the rules, no changing history, and try not to meet yourself, I'm sick of having to do repairs in the fabric of time!

And as if that isn't exciting enough we are releasing a brand new "Do you want curves with that" cardigan. Its a teeny tiny limited run  just to see if there is demand so check them out

And guess what we are doing our very first Black Friday! So if you are UK based and looking for a cool curvaceous Christmas gift take advantage of free P & P on everything!

#Celfie T-shirt from Yours Clothing

This weekend has been an absolute whirlwind. I travelled down to London on Saturday to attend the Plus size awards (where I won an award!! More on that later in the week) and managed to squeeze in a cheeky day out with the brown eyed crew taking in London in all its Christmas glory.
Just before I left Yours Clothing sent me this #celfie teeshirt £10 which I absolutely love. As an obsessive taker of Selfies or “Celfies” the irony isn’t lost on me and I’m a sucker for black tees with white logos in.
Having a cheeky mulled wine
I chucked it on with some black snakeskin print Jeggings £22 also by Yours and my white hightops. My coat is past season Matalan but Yours are selling this jacket which is very similar.
Be warned these photos were taken on my phone and I was very hungover so look a little boss eyed but hey if you want perfection buy Vogue. This is the blog of a fat middle aged mama. Its all good baby.

Trying to stay dry
On our day out it absolutely chucked down in London, torrential rain, a sea of brollys, just the worst kind of tourist weather really but the one thing about my family is that they will not be put off course, so despite probably needing a canoe we braved Winter Wonderland at Hyde park and it was brilliant.

Winter Wonderland-just pure festive tackiness (I loved it)

If you need a fix of pure festive cheer I can not recommend it highly enough. Its got a fun fair, stalls, a German bierkeller, little ski lodges selling mulled wine (which we of course partook in, to keep us warm) and just oodles of Christmas inspired tackiness. I loved it.
Donuts
After a few hours we were thoroughly drenched so went to see the latest Hunger Games film (amazing) and then wandered up Oxford street and Regent street, just being totally blown away by the gorgeous Christmas lights. Nowhere does Christmas like London. Its simply magical.
Its Paddington
Highlights for me included hunting out all the Paddington bears dotted around, seeing Nicky Rockets being like a kid in a candy store in the Johnny Cupcakes tee-shirt store and the perfection of the creations at choccywoccydoodah
choccywoccydoodah

Probably my all time “holidays are coming” moment was taking in the window displays at Selfridges. I was just totally blown away and despite the rain running down my neck, and the people treading on my toes was filled with childlike wonder. Those window dressers are wizards.

The gold Paddington Bear themed window

I am homeward bound now-tired, emotional with rain in my shoes and a hankering to dig out my Christmas decorations and spray everything with glitter. London you sexy bitch, you have put the jingle in my bells.

London I love you
