Dark Glamour For Halloween: Black sequined wrap dress from Yours

Earlier this month I shot a set of images for BGP magazine. They were to accompany an article (which you can read here) I had written about Halloween glamour so naturally I wanted to ensure I was looking my sexy spooky best.

Your Clothing very kindly offered to dress me for the shoot and what a frock they sent.

The black sequined wrap dress £60 is just pure plus size glamour. I'm a sucker for sequins anyway but the cut of this dress along with the dark shimmering fabric is just totally wow. I felt like a total vamp in it for the entire photoshoot and will definitely be taking this out to play over the festive season.

To accompany this dress of vampy gorgeousness they also sent me some adorable leopard print pumps £12 with a gold heel and a beautiful clutch bag with bow detail £9

The overall effect was mysterious, glittery and very Halloween chic. Whatever you are doing this Halloween weekend may your lipstick be crimson, your hair backcombed and your eyeshadow smoky. Brooms are optional!

How to Make A Creepy Halloween Skull Chair

Halloween is here and what better way to celebrate than by creating a creepy skull chair out of pallets.

Pallets are so easy to get hold of (these were simply propped up against a skip) and great to work with.

One thing to consider is that all pallets are different depending on what they are being used for, so you may need to adapt the design of your chair depending on the pallets you can get hold of, but really that’s half the fun.

You will need:

Two Pallets

Drill

Saw

Jigsaw

Wood Glue

Screwdriver

Screws

Hammer

Sandpaper

Step One

First we need to make the legs. Now the pallets we are using contain no wood that is strong or wide enough to support a person’s weight, so we have to construct the legs and reinforce with extra wood. For this we are going to utilise the small block separators that are contained within the pallet.

Take a pallet apart pulling the nails out with your hammer until you are left with two blocks on a strip of wood. You will need four of these measuring approximately 80cm high/ 9 cm wide

Next cut any spare wood to the same length (80cms wide) as your long strips then nail these to the blocks as well. This will give you four chair legs, each covered on two sides.

Step two

We are now going to make the seat. Take your second pallet, and as you want quite a wide seat, cut just after the middle block spacers.

Dimensions are:

60cm length x 46 cm wide

Obviously a seat can’t have holes in, or your bum will fall through, so fill in the spaces with the remaining spare pieces of wood and nail them in.

Step Three

Now to attach the legs. Mine are 80cm in height so I have chosen to position them 40cm from the bottom of the seat. You then drill some guide holes and then screw the legs in place.

Now you should have something that resembles a chair, or at least something with four legs.

Step Four

Next are the arm rests. Now I was quite lucky and had a pallet with two fairly thick pieces of wood down each side, so I’m going to use them. Remove them from the pallet and fix them to each side of the chair. This time I’ve used a bit of wood glue and then screwed them into place.

Once again drilling guide holes first. I didn’t cut them to size, as I want a little hanging over the back for the chair back to sit on.

Make sure the overhang of the arms is the same on both sides (here it is about 3cm)

Step Five

Take one of the spare wooden slats, cut it to size and screw it to the chair leg and back of the arm rest. This is what the chair back will rest against.

Step Six

Next is the back rest. Luckily I had a pallet with no slats missing, but if this is not the case, then you may have to fill in the gaps with spare slats. You can of course leave this as a simple chair back or if you fancy do as I have done and cut out a design with a jigsaw. Hearts, butterflies or in my case a skull motif (a bit of rock n roll for my garden furniture) it’s a great way to turn something quite basic looking into something slightly more sophisticated.

Draw out your design. Find the middle of your pallet and work out from there. Once the design is drawn, cut it out with a jigsaw.

Once cut out, screw the back in place. Drill some guide holes, then screw it in.

One last thing

If you have any spare slats, cut them to fit and nail them to the seat, to cover the gaps.

Once the chair construction is completed give it a good sandpaper before you varnish or paint it. The wood on pallets is VERY splintery, so it needs to be sanded. If you have a sander it would be faster, but sandpaper will do.

Throw some wood on the chimera, grab a hot chocolate and enjoy sitting in your one of a kind chair made from wood off cuts destined for a landfill.

5 (Big Fat) Reasons To Vote For Betty Pamper In The Plus Size Awards

Nestled at the bottom of each of my blog posts for the last few months has been a plea for you guys to vote for me in the Plus Size bloggerawards

All the nominees for this award are absolutely awesome and I read all of them so it will be no shame to lose to one of them, but I would love to actually take home the best blogger award this year and Im not ashamed to make my case.

Here are 5 big fat reasons I think my blog should waltz off with the silverware on November the 22nd and I hope will convince you to cast your votes my way.

Reason#1-I Never Play Safe With Fat Fashion

In my world no one puts fatty in the corner.Week in, week out I try to show (with a selection of photos of me prancing around in my garden) how being plus size should never be seen as an obstacle to enjoying clothes and fashion in all its frivolity and wonder.

From punk princess,glamorous geek or vintage inspired siren my style is ever changing and ever challenging. By pushing the fat fashion barriers I like to think I embolden and empower all the readers of my blog to do the same.

Reason #2-I Do Great Chubby Cosplay

When I was growing up obsessed with Star wars, comics and all thing geeky the idea of a fat super hero was just totally unacceptable I remember watching Russ Abbot on a Saturday night and how everyone laughed at "Blunder woman" a fat superhero who sang songs about her girdle snapping.

This may seem like a small thing but I think overall people still think only certain body types can credibly look "Superhuman" or "Other worldly"

Re-Imagining classic comic and fantasy characters into fat forms which still kick total ass is a real pet project of mine. I am forever trying out crazy make up and costumes ideas, nothing is too unusual and my size will never put me off trying out a character.Here are just some of the my creations.

Batgirl, Poison Ivy and Wonder woman-fat and awesome

The world of dressing up as comic book or fantasy/horror characters can sometimes look like its only open to slim babes with perky boobs and tiny waists. I refuse to let my apple shaped figure be treated with anything less than the respect it deserves and if that means donning a red corset and gold knee boots-so be it.

The next time someone googles "Wonder woman" costume or "Batgirl" I want my fat little face staring out at them.

I have a little girl growing up in a world where she is still bombarded with the idea that to be "thin" and "beautiful" is on a par with winning a lottery ticket and gazumps everything else including brains, compassion and personality. I'm determined to change this, one costume at a time.

Reason #3 I Brought You A Tee Shirt Design With Killer Curves

Bored of only seeing chicks with Barbie Doll proportions on Rock n Roll inspired tee-shirts I asked my husband Nicky Rockets to design a teeshirt featuring a plus size hottie shaking what her mama gave her.

The end result based of a photo of me was the Killer Curves teeshirt which is now worn around the world. When it comes to being a plus size hottie-I quite literally brought the tee shirt.

Women of all shapes and sizes should be featured as strong, empowered sex bombs and if the world of retail is too slow on the uptake I shall just make it my job to hurry them along.
The collection now features a chubby super vixen in space, as a pirate, a zombie killer and a witch. I love that women send me their pictures channelling their inner Curverella. Its a small but beautiful community of kick ass feisty females who are proud of their shape and size and want to wear a teeshirt which promotes body positivity with a big helping of plus size fantasy.

Reason #4 I Give Good Make Up

from applying false eyelashes, face contouring (be gone double chin) to eliminating dark under eye shadows, my beauty tutorials always aim to demystify the world of beauty and show you that with a little know how and practise its so easy to look fanfuckingtastic.

Vavavoom glamour shouldn't be a secret club, I'm an ordinary freckly middle aged lady who daily transforms herself into a cross between RuPaul and Joan Collins-you might not share my "plastered on" tastes but you can certainly enhance your natural beauty with a few of my sneaky tricks.

Let me paint your face

Sisterhood takes on many forms and lifting the veil on things like "how to apply liquid eyeliner" is up there with holding your mates hair back while she pukes. Its just good gal pal karma.

Reason #4 I call people/papers/social media out on their shit

Just shut it

My blog isn't just beautiful clothes, big bangers and long eyelashes (although those are among three of my favourite things) I also enjoy raising my backcombed head above the parapet to address body shaming, sexism and bullying.

In the last year alone I've written blogs on myths about fattys (and filmed vlogs around the same subject) spoken about how overweight women are treated as brides, lifted the lid on being plus size and pregnant as well as set out my stall regarding "Summer Bodies" and the constant pressure in women to conform to a certain size and shape.

My Opinon Page is an antidote to an endless stream of fat bashing perpetuated by the media.The Internet can be a harsh place to be when you are a curvaceous lovely, I like to think Pamper and Curves is a safe haven where truth, honesty and beauty will always prevail and big boobied cuddles are never more than a keyboard tap away.

Reason #5 I'm A Crafty Bitch

From garden benches to halloween wreaths I love to create beautiful items for the home and garden, often using recycled materials. I pride myself on always offering craft projects which anyone can have a go at. Quick, easy with impressive results. Crafts for busy people who may only have an hour or two on a sunday to try their hand at something.
