Clements Ribeiro for Evans: Rock Lobster

I've fallen hard for this lobster
I fell very hard indeed for this Lobster print tunic dress by Clements Ribeiro for Evans when it first came out a few months ago and snapped it up (geddit) straight away. I've since worn it a lot but am only now getting around to reviewing it. The great news is that its now in the sale so if you like it its down to £25
I love clothes that have a pop culture element or are slightly irreverent and this tunic with its lobster print (the claws nipping at my Bristol's in a rather saucy fashion) ticks all my design boxes.
Nipping at my boobies

Perfect for busy days when I want to look cool but not too fussy

Its comfortable, cute and is absolutely ideal for throwing on for busy days when I'm juggling work and mama bear duties.
Comfortable and cute but not at all frumpy-bravo

I've worn this both with and without a belt and I realise the big belt (also by Evans but a few seasons ago)) crashes rather rudely over the print but for me  without something to pull the waist in I felt a little bit cube like and that will never do.
I know the belt goes over the design but I need to be nipped in  and not just by the lobster
Its exactly the same cut as the lip print dress by the same designers which I reviewed last month. Its got a great wide neck (although don't make my mistake and have ugly bra straps showing-you would think I hadn't been weaned on the Madonna school of bright bra strap flashing at all, I hang my crimped head in shame) its made of soft Jersey  and finishes just above the knee.
I would have loved this to be slightly longer
I would have probably preferred it to be slightly longer as I'm not  a fan of above the knee dresses simply because they ride up and I feel like I might be flashing my knickers. Luckily this style suits leggings perfectly (its very art teacher chic) so Ive just chucked on a pair from primark with some ballet flats.
My hair is in a messy bun with a leopard print zombie Marilyn Monroe clip in (as you do) and I've accessorised with a pink skull ring by Belinda's pretties and a necklace I picked up at a local jumble sale. It has just the right amount of eighties clunkiness to work.

Clothes should be fun and make you feel amazing, sure being plus size can make finding fashionable cool stuff a challenge but it can be done. Vive la fashionable fatties!

Fat Chick In Floral BodyCon Dress Alert

I'm "doing" Bodycon-I like it

Of all the trends of the last year or so "Bodycon" has perhaps been the one I have been most wary of.
Sure I wear dresses that are fairly fitted and fifties style "wiggle" dresses form a big part of my wardrobe  but Bodycon is a totally different beast.
Its never been that I don't think a woman of my size or shape should wear this style because dear readers as you know I am passionate in the belief that we should all wear whatever the hell we like, it's rather that being comfortable with my fatness isn't the same as wanting to look like a sausage in a skin  and I've always been slightly afraid that a bodycon dress would make me sizzle more like a Walls banger than a Hollywood siren.
Killer curves or sausage in a skin-maybe a curvy sausage?

A few months ago I went to look at the Littlewoods plus size fashion range "So Fabulous" and they very kindly sent me this floral bodycon dress

This was definitely a "Spanx" required outfit

It wasn't the best start into my foray into bodycon as the sizing for this frock is really small and I had to return the first one they sent me and go up a size  (so if you fancy buying this-size up is my tip) but undeterred I got the next size up and all was good in the world.
Some may think this is gods way of telling me that bodycon was not created for a body quite as bootilicous as mine. To this I say "bite me"
Fab dress but if like me all your weight is around your muddle you may need to size up

I'm a great lover of shapewear (its a fatty divider I know) and I have to say I couldn't have worn this outfit without industrial strength spanx on.
Its so fitted you could see my knicker line and I looked like a real egg on legs before I put on my trusty Bridget Jones pants.

Beautiful vibrant colours and piping detail
Once I had put it all together though I actually really liked the finished look. The dress is beautifully made with a fab piping detail and the vibrant colours of the floral print are totally up my street.

Its got  a big zip at the back which goes to the top of the bum so has all the best features of a great bodycon dress and I felt very lovely in it indeed.
I did try wearing this without a cardigan but felt rather like a tablecloth and think the hot pink colour gives some definition to my waist which in this dress where there is no where to hide was gratefully received.
Ive teamed it with a lovely necklace by Bete Noire, an old jasper Conran for Debenhams bag and my pink bow jelly shoes.
Glamour girl
pastel pink shoes and bag finish off the outfit-so sweet it makes your teeth ache
To finish off this sugar sweet look Ive stuck a great big purple flower in your hair. You know my motto "more is more dahlinks!"

Have you tried Bodycon as style or is it simply too unforgiving?

Time To Defuzz: Yawn

Its that time of year again-wookie legs be gone

The sun has finally made an appearance and Ive just booked a weekend away in July which can only mean one thing. Time to start the tyranny of hair removal.
I'm always a bit conflicted about shaving or waxing my legs. The feminist in me wants to reject the notion but the glamour obsessive in me can't bear the look or feel of stubbly legs and the thought of a spider leg bikini line does send shivers down my spine.
I realise its years of sexist conditioning but what can I tell you, I prefer smooth legs.
Picture from Pintrest

Being so lazy the thought of having to shave most days doesn't fill me with joy. Quite a few people I know have undergone laser hair removal and Liverpool now has a clinic called Sk:n offering this so I am tempted. The idea of never having to endure the stubble prickle under my arms or have sandpaper legs does appeal.
I definitely need to do something. Recently I have taken to shaving just from the knee down and after one particular strong gust of wind blew up my skirt Lilly Von Pink quipped that I looked like I was wearing hairy cycling shorts.Mortifying.
Does the onset of summer have you rushing to defluff? Would you consider laser hair removal?
*I never lie to you dear readers-this is a sponsored post. The hairy leg story though is sadly true*

Betty and Lilly on the radio

Ready to chat about all things pamperbox

Last week myself and Lilly were invited to go on Liverpool community radios "big lunch" show.
Who says you don't have to get dressed up for the radio

Based in Kensington Lcr is exclusively for and about Liverpool. They had heard about the Vintage Pamperbox and were keen for us to tell their listeners more.
They were a lovely bunch and whilst the interview is a bit "freeform" we hopefully came across well.
Lilly ready to hit the airwaves

Talking about the vintage Pamperbox is never a chore, it's our baby, it's such a fun way to make a living so whenever anyone asks me about it try shutting me up!
The unicorn princess looking slightly bemused by the meandering interview

Its fair to say its a bit of a bonkers interview, rather meandering and we ended up talking about men's shaving habits, feminism and make up as well as the psychological impact that feeling good about your appearance can have.
Here is the interview. Enjoy!

How To Eliminate Eye Bags And Dark Circles With Make Up

This has been a much requested tutorial. It seems I'm not the only one who suffers from under eye circles. I've always had them and can look rather hollow eyed if I get a bad nights sleep. There's of course lots if good practical stuff you can do to manage this ( drink water, sleep lots etc) but this tutorial is to show you how to cover up your panda eyes using make up trickery.Take a look:

And for those of you who can't watch clips here is the photo version:
Step One
Make sure your skin is moisturised and pop some Simple Regeneration eye cream under your eyes. Leave for a minute or so to soak in.

Pat Simple's Regeneration eye cream on

Step Two
Apply a medium coverage foundation all over your face

Brush on your foundation. Here I'm using Boujois 123 perfect in shade vanilla Clair. Use a make up brush and ensure you get even cover all over.

Step Three

Dot Estee Lauders Camoflague Doublewear  just under the eyes. Blend in with your foundation brush.

Step Four

Take benefits boi ing concealer ( best on the market I think) and pat it under your eyes along the socket line. Don't take it to right above the eye, you are now concentrating on the area where the actual shadow hits which tends to be along the socket Blend with your foundation brush.
Boi ing the most amazing concealer

Step Five

Add some light
Take a highlighter such as Benefits high beam and dot along where your circles are most prominent.
Do not use powder under your eyes. It will sit in the lines and dull the highlighter.
Voila! from baggy to wide eyed in just a few minutes. Doncha just love make up.

Ethnic Print Dress OOTD

When the plus size clothing brand  Curvissa approached me to try something from their new summer collection I decided to try something out of my comfort zone.
My first love with clothes is always 50's/60's inspired shapes and colours but I'm keen that I never get too stuck in a rut and something about this ethnic print dress really appealed to me.
I love the print which makes me feel like I should be in Sly and the family stones backing band and the slash neck and batwing sleeves which also feel quite 1970's.
Getting my 70's groove on
Kaftaning my way out of  a style rut

Its elasticated under the boobs and in a lovely soft jersey which gives it a great shape and I've pulled it in further with a belt because its one thing wearing something in a fabric that is reminiscent of a 70's kaftan's and quite another to wear a shape that resembles one.
A simple black belt nips in my waist
In the spirit of the dress Ive left my hair down-just being free maaan

In the spirit of being slightly freer I've left my hair down with a small white flower pinning it up at the side. I've matched the orange shades in the fabric with  a lovely sleek lipstick in shade vixen
Purple ballet pumps work surprisingly well with the orange and black print
Lipstick shade "vixen" by Sleek
I wore this dress to work on a make up job and it was so comfortable. Easy to move in and cool but without the dreaded "tent" shape you can get with more voluminous plus size designs.
This dress is so comfortable
Loving my first ever item from Curvissa

Its been my first foray into the world of Curvissa and I'm very impressed by the design and quality.
Are you in a style rut? ready to try something new? Will it be this seasons ethnic prints?
