What Katie Hopkins Did Next

Oh Katie-do shut up
This summer it seems Katie Hopkins ex of the apprentice and the Daily Mails darling has pushed Samantha Brick off her toxic pedestal and not a day seems to go by without her spouting something "controversial" and setting twitter and facebook pages alight.
A few weeks ago she was defiantly stating how she wouldn't let her children play with children she deemed to have common names (pity her poor kids, I thought I was embarrassing turning up to the school gates in false eyelashes) and this week she is casting her icy blue eyes on the fatties.
In the latest issue of Reveal mag  she claims she would never employ an obese person
"If an obese person came for an interview with me, I would know the moment they walked through the door that they wouldn't get the job. No matter how brilliant, how bright, how good their qualifications or experience, I would not employ them"
Her reasons for this are breath taking in their ignorance
"They just look lazy. I really don't believe that someone carrying 20 stone or similar could move at the speed and pace needed to complete a hectic day of meetings and commitments"

Yes I'm fat, and yet Ive had a successful career-am I in the minority-not on your nelly
As a fat woman who has not only worked in various management positions in blue chip companies and who now runs her own business my initial reaction to this was to shrug it off, nodding my head in bewilderment that someone was paid to write such tosh but the more I thought about it the more serious I realised this casual discrimination was.
You see not so long ago it was considered acceptable to discriminate against people of colour, people with disabilities struggled to get gainful employment and women doing anything other settling down to have babies were viewed as socially destructive.
Through years of education and legislation, equal opportunities and the idea of Britain being a fair and tolerant nation has taken root and our workplaces are so much the better for it. So this casual reintroduction of bias based entirely on a persons outward appearance isn't just cruel and insensitive its dangerous.
Churchill would never make the grade at Katie PLC
To put this into some sort of context Katie would have showed Winston Churchill the door but hired Hitler on the spot. Sure I'm being mischievous but based on her own comments Katie would not give Oprah Winfrey a job. Yep Oprah ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history and for a time the worlds only black billionaire just wouldn't make the grade.
Sorry Oprah-You are just too fat and lazy
As a corporate go getter surely her aim when employing staff should be bringing in  people who will be brilliant. Ive worked with amazing business people in my life and they have come in all shapes and sizes. Its a whole new level of daftness to equate body shape and weight with ability and has no place in our workforce.
She of course wheels out the whole "fat people get ill and have health problems" argument. Right so slim and medium build people never get ill? what about smokers, red meat eaters, perhaps you could do background checks to see if cancers run in families-its a silly generalisation with no basis in reality.
As a mother of young children I also wonder how Katie will cope if god forbid one of her kids grows up to be over weight? will she ostracise and marginalise them?
I'm ending this with my recent 5 big fat myths video-please take a look Katie, you might just learn something.

Besame 1930's Mascara

Creating a darkly glamorous 1930's inspired make up

I've been a fan of Besame Lipstick for years. Their bullet shaped lipsticks are such a glamorous homage to a bygone time and the quality of the product is amazing, highly pigmented, long lasting and in wonderful shades which look particularly fab on vintage inspired ladies but work equally well with edgy fashion.
Beautiful Besame Mascara
The lovely Lotty Blue are now one of the exclusive suppliers of Besame in the UK and Lisa who runs the company knowing my love of retro inspired glamour sent me one of the brands 1930's mascaras to try.

I created a smokey eye with a rounded almost sleepy shape using a mixture of urban decay and Mac matte eye shadows
Using Besames 1930's mascara on Lilly's lashes
Mysterious eyes done-now for the rest of the look

Rather than just do a straight forward review I thought I would give Lilly a 1930's inspired make over to show you what the mascara can do.
This being a thirties style product its not about lengthening the lashes rather its about separating them and adding to the smoky eyed allure of the Jazz baby theme.
Make up complete-time for Lilly to perform her hair magic

Ive been using this mascara for a while now and really, really like it. Aside from the packaging which is as you would expect from Besame is just adorable the product is lovely. The mascara is fairly thin so very buildable. It claims to have conditioning properties and I did feel it left my lashes glossy and soft which is unusual for a mascara.

Classic Besame gold packaging

Eyelashes are glossy and conditioned
For me this is the perfect mascara for when you want more natural looking lashes or if you tend to suffer from the dreaded "clumping' I also use it as a base coat under my false lashes and as a bottom lash enhancer.
At £19.75 it isn't cheep but unlike a lot of other make up marketed as luxury this does really feel special.

Besame Cherry red lipstick completes the look

Jazz baby got the blues in her hair

For Lilly's make up I created a smokey eye using carbon by Mac and
shades broken, beware and bewitched from Urban Decays Theodora Oz palette. I lined the eyes with collection 2000's gel liner and then coated the lashes with the Besame mascara.
Urban Decays Oz palette-perfect for the soft smokes I wanted to create

A classic thirties look with a modern twist

Keeping with the Besame theme I also used Besames Cherry red lipstick on her lips.Lilly finger waved her hair, gently rolling it underneath to create a soft bob.

Nerd Girl Chic: Cartoon Print Dress

Comic book love
I am very happy to call myself a nerd. I love Dr Who, comics, vampires, fairies, witches, Game of thrones and loads of sci fi. So when I spied this cartoon print dress at Yours clothing there was no question I had to own it.

Its not just a dress, its a conversation starter
This dress has without doubt garnered the most compliments I have ever received when out and about. It’s a real conversation starter.

Great length-not too short
The shape is classic skater dress but it’s a nice length hitting just past the knee. I also love that it has the black mesh top as it breaks up the print somewhat and gives the dress a slightly more elegant finish than if it was all one design.
The black mesh top creates a slightly more elegant shape

My slight criticism is the material is very man made feeling (don’t stand too close to me with a match  or I may go up in flames) but I imagine that’s because the print is so bright and part of the fabric. It’s a small niggle though because I actually adore this.
Darlek necklace-Yes I'm a whovian

I've coupled this frock with a necklace that my best pal Lilly Von Pink made for me. She knows of my Doctor Who love so turned up the other day with a Dalek necklace for me,best friend ever.
I have to say me and my little girl have been fighting over it and this is the first time I've got to wear it.

Pretty
Quirky
I love clothes which are not just pretty but quirky and this dress is definitely that.At £35 its not too expensive either for something so unusual. I think I will get loads of wear out of this frock. it can be edgy with big boots and stripy tights or girly  with a little cardigan and ballet pumps.

Yes I'm a nerd, no I'm no ashamed! Viva Le Fat Nerd Girl!
