Weekend faves: Valentinas Hen Party

A few weeks ago I featured the make over party of Fran and her group of beautiful Italian friends.
Surprise!
One of their friendship group Valentina was unable to attend and was very disappointed so Fran very sneakily organised a surprise hen party for her instead and it was such a lovely day.
Valentina-The bride to be-we roller set her hair for a Betty draper inspired hair do to match her frock

Valentina didn't have a clue it was happening and simply thought she was meeting Fran in Liverpool for lunch.
Fran-the mastermind behind Valentina's hen party

Unbeknown to her we were booked and waiting along with all her friends.
Fran and Valentina's fiance had even conspired to buy a beautiful outfit including shoes so she would have something to wear for her photoshoot.
We kicked off the day with a lesson in fasinator making which all the girls loved.

We then transformed all the ladies into vintage lovelies.
This fab acid green frock was an original 1960's one from her Mama

Loving how many of the girls are modelling the hair fasinators they made earlier in the day-Crafty Queens indeed!

I love it when ladies bring gloves-its so chic
Cute victory rolls work beautifully with hot pink lips

Refusing to be a slave to a theme this gorgeous lady decided to channel some Josephine Baker flapper style and how fab does she look

Loving these sixty girl band style hairdo's with skinny plaits-part Shangri-La's, part little house on the prairie

It was a fantastic day and we were so happy to be part of Valentina's surprise hen party. Good luck with your fabulous wedding in Italy. If you would like a Vintage Pamperbox experience get in touch or visit our website

My Love/Hate relationship With Illamasqua make Up

Despite being something of a make up junkie I have never tried very much from the  Illamasqua brand.

Considering I absolutely love their tutorials, regularly drool over their facebook feed and adore the punk rock sensibility of founder Julian Kynaston  its crazy that until recently I’ve only owned one solitary eyeshadow palette.

So when myself and fellow blogger Elena from The Frivolous Mrs D blog found ourselves outside their flagship store near carnaby street it seemed rude not to go in and have a mooch.
In the lovely Illamasqua store

The store was absolutely beautiful and the staff really lovely. Elena was after a new foundation and they quickly colour matched her to an amazing product which offered great coverage and looked really dewy.
Elena having hjer make up done at Illamasqua
As I’m not looking for a major purchase at the moment I decided to explore a zingy blusher to take me into summer and of course I’m always on the lookout for new lipsticks.
Excite-I love this blusher

I fell in love with one of their powder blushers in shade Excite described as a “vivid apricot” this colour is just so beautiful on.
I love the healthy glow this blusher gives
Its incredibly pigmented so with only a few strokes you get such a strong colour which when buffed into the apples of your cheeks is like a healthy glow in make up form. At £18 its by far one of the most expensive blushers I own but I absolutely love it. The colour pay off is awesome, the packaging black, glossy and substantial looking and its basically one of those products that makes all the hype about big brand make up appear to be true.
Beautiful packaging, beautiful product

My second purchase was a matte lipstick in a bright pink shade called Immodest At £16 I nearly didn’t get this as its so similar to my favourite Lime Crime lipstick Fluorescent Countessa but once I caught sight of myself with a bubblegum coloured totally matte pout I couldn’t leave it behind.
How fantastic is this lip colour Immodest but the texture is just awful
There’s no nice way to say this so here goes. I absolutely hate this lipstick.

As it’s totally matte I obviously expected that it wouldn’t be particularly moisiturising but I have lots of others very matte lipsticks and what they lack in juiciness that make up for in longevity. The sales assistant who sold it to me said the lipsticks don’t fade for ages and that her own lipstick (which looked very fresh) had been applied three hours ago. Sadly I just haven’t found this to be the case at all.
This is how crumbly it looks half an hour after application
The lipstick texture is so dry it crumbles after about half an hour of wear leaving flakes of product on the lips especially at the corners of the mouth and inside the lips. There is nothing I hate more than “bitty” lipstick. Its just horrible.Despite being very matte this product fades really quickly and generally just doesn’t look very good.
This is such a shame as the shade is gorgeous but I’ve found that I can only achieve an acceptable finish by applying it with a lip brush and mixing it with lipbalm or Vaseline, which slightly negates the point of having a super matte lipstick.
At £16 this is such a disappointment. For a similar price point I could have brought a channel or LancĂ´me lipstick, which I know are amazing.
I’ve since done a bit of surfing to see what other beauty bloggers think of this lipstick and overall most of them say this lipstick is awesome so maybe I just brought a dud?
Needless to say I wont be buying any more lipsticks from Illamasqua anytime soon.
Will it stop me buying their eyeshadows and blushers? Not on your nelly, they absolutely rock but I’m afraid when it comes to lipstick I’ve been totally turned off.
Have you had good experiences with this brands lipsticks? Have I just been unlucky?

The Lips Have It OOTD

I've never worn a great deal of Evans clothing. In the past I've found it to be quite pricey and maybe I've harboured old resentments as for a long time the company dominated the plus size clothing arena and I often really disliked what was on offer.
Over the last few years though the brand have started offering capsule collections with edgier designs  and I am slowly revising my opinion of them. Beth Dittos range was quite exciting and more recently they have been working with design duo Clements Ribeiro  on the Swan range.
I already felt quite positive about this collection as they used some of my favourite plus size bloggers in the campaign and from the pictures I saw of them it looked right up my street, quirky kitschy prints on bright colours and nice shapes.
Ive actually brought two pieces from the collection and this is the first.
I fell in love with the lipstick print when I saw Callie from The corners of the curve blog and Bethany from My Arched eyebrow wearing it for the Evans promo shoot.
As a lipstick junkie this dress is just perfect
At £39.50 its quite expensive for a jersey dress but as a make up artist the lipstick motif is just irresistible.I spend my life surrounded by discarded tissue with lip imprints on so it really speaks to me.

Ive never worn this shape before but I'm really liking it

I know this collection has been a bit of a marmite thang with some plus size hotties hating the shapes of the dresses and also the fabrics used but I absolutely love it.
My hair is a bit wild today-not sure why

This Lip print jersey dress is a simple shift style with a wide neck and runs very true to size. Ive cinched it in with a little belt and worn it over leggings but it looks just as good unbelted.I feel a little bit like an art teacher in it, all I'm missing is two pencils stuck in my hair.I think its the shape. Its a departure for me but one I really like.

This feels a bit art teacher chic

Hello Kitty-perfect for this quite camp dress

The jersey feels very good quality and I adore the vibrancy of the print. For me its all about the design and I adore this one so much. It reminds me of an old Miss Selfridge print which adorned their make up bags back in the day.
It feels fun and kitsch so Ive accessorised with a Hello Kitty necklace and pink bow pumps.
Bravo Evans-you are back on my good side

I'm wearing this for a make up artist gig I've been booked for so its very apt.
I have to say I'm feeling a lot more love for Evans since they have launched this range. Sure not every piece is my cup of tea but I like quite a few of the designs, a lot. Bravo!
Have you brought any of the Swan range? would this collection entice you back to shopping at the original fatty clothes shop?

Bon Prix Polka Dot Tee Dress OOTD

Until now my most recent experience with clothing brand Bon Prix have been with their very lovely swimwear which has been a firm fave for quite a while.
This season though Ive been really loving some of their fab daywear and this polka dot Jersey tea dress really caught my eye.

Dotty for Polka
Unlike a lot of plus size brands Box prixs prices are very reasonable and their range is huge (no pun intended) so well worth a mooch if you are looking to update your spring/summer wardrobe.

This dress is such great workwear for me. I always like to look slightly vintagetastic when I run Pamperboxes but when its warm a full swing dress can get very hot so something like this is just the ticket. Its so comfortable, easy to move in and looks smart but not too formal.
Having a recline, as you do

Its worth saying that whilst this is a lovely stretchy jersey material this dress is fairly fitted. There is nowhere to hide in terms of lumps and bumps and my appletastic shape looks even juicer than usual. This doesn't trouble me one jot (love me, love my fat apron) but worth considering if you are self conscious about your tummy.

The fairly fitted jersey takes some getting used to but now I love it
At £24.99 its a great price point and so far its washed really well.I love the fact it has sleeves as its meant I can ditch my usual cardigan and it makes it look quite lady like indeed.
Hurrah for sleeves

I feel quite 1940's chic in this frock with its neat neck neckline and little bow detail and its also slightly country housewife.A cross between a Landgirl and Ma Larkin. Perfick

Love the cute bow
Ive victory rolled the front of my hair and waved the back. I wanted to keep my accessories fairy simple so Ive worn a white flower in my hair and a small rabbit necklace which I brought last summer from Accessorise.

Putting my feet up after a very busy day-well I am President of the big titted lazy bitch society remember
I think this is one of those dresses which I will wear again and again, it would also be perfect to take on holiday as would roll up very small. It also comes in red and green and I'm quite tempted to get those as well. Well you know me and polka dots.

Hey fatty bum bums-define your  own style
