Geek Chic

Attack of the Geek
I think in recent times its become quite acceptable to refer to yourself as a"Geek"
Shows like like the Big bang Theory and the slow realisation that the geeks have sort of taken over the world (Mark Zukerberg and Bill Gates yes I am looking at you) have rehabilitated a word which I have had hurled at me many a time in a less than admiring way (I quote Starwars, I love anything with vampires in, I gently stalk Morrissey, none of these made for easy formative years) So when I saw this jumper by Yours Clothing I decided I had to have it.
The perfect slob out jumper

Its a bit of a bargain at £24 and perfect for those days when you don't want to look too "try hard"

Eek!!

Which makes it perfect for today. Its good Friday, I'm hosting a kids craft afternoon for Baba and her posse and after attending a blogger event the day before where I was glammed up to the max I just want to slob (well my version of slob anyway)
A Geek yes, but a glamorous one
Geeks of the world unite

Ive teamed this rather fabulous jumper with a black tube skirt from Topshop, black Matalan leggings and brothel creepers.
I did buy my true size in this and on reflection I wish I had sized up a bit as I would have preferred it to be baggier as its quite short in the body so worth remembering if you like the oversized look.
A spotty headscarf finished my geekathon

I hope you all managed to have a relaxing Easter break. Let me know if you fancy displaying your pride at being a "Geek" on your sweater.
Loving clothes and being a cool cat are not just the preserve of the youthful and beautiful, fat middle aged ladies like me can still rock it and so can you. Don't buy into some silly preconceived idea of what it is to be attractive. make the very best of what you have got, look the world in the eye and say "hey you, yes you I'm talking to you. Look at how fan fucking tastic I look"

Animal Print Perfection from Yours Clothing: OOTD

Yes its animal print-I know I have a problem

Having never shopped at Yours Clothing until a few months ago I have totally fallen in love with their very wearable and affordable collection.
This seemingly never ending freezing weather means I'm getting quite bored of all my winter stuff so have been adding a few extra pieces which will see me through once the weather gets warmer. This frock is perfect as once the sun starts to shine it will look great with footless tights and a short sleeved cardigan.

Camouflage
I realise I really should just "get over" animal print but what can I tell you, the heart wants what the heart wants and when I saw this animal print dress for £35 I had to get it.
Despite being snow leopard print it actually isn't too crazy and feels low key enough to wear in the day for the school run or the supermarket without screaming  "I'm a Bet Lynch wannabee"
These pictures were taken last Saturday when the snow was at its thickest and it was absolutely freezing. I'm about to teach at a Vintage pamper day at Telfords Warehouse in Chester hence the shots against the leopard print photo background (where I'm almost disappearing)

Exposed brick-very urban
Its the cardigan under the boob look again
The dress has got an elasticated waist which nips it in slightly and a nice pleated effect down the front. I'm always slightly cautious of quite high round necks as they can make me look like I have a shelf of boob but I've created a bit more shape by knotting my cardigan so it breaks the print up a bit (I always use this trick to avoid the dreaded curtain effect that can happen when big boobs and a loud pattern meet-take this tip I gift it to you)

Hot pink lips-I think so
Looking to a future when I can pass up a dress in leopard print

I've put this slice of animal print yuminess with a plain cardigan from primark, thick tights and my Tuk creepers (as an aside someone found my blog recently using the search tag "fat girl in creepers" hello beautiful stranger, see we do exist)
Ive worn my hair in a mega bun with a leopard print hello Kitty headband and I'm sporting my usual lashings of black eyeliner (soap and glory) false eyelashes (Ardell) and Barry M lip paint (shade 62) I'm calling this look "tart with a heart" it makes me feel fabulous.
This dress will definitely earn its keep

I think this dress will become a real "go to" item' in my wardrobe and one I wear again and again.I do promise this will be my last bit of animal print for a while though, I feel I've been neglecting polka dots...
Ive said it before and I will say it again. Never let your size or shape stop you loving clothes and feeling fabulous. Let go of the body hate, give yourself a great big pom pom filled cheer and wear whatever the hell you like. You will rock it and if this bothers anyone tell them to kiss your big fat ass!

And if you fancy a little shopping spree at Yours every day this week they are choosing 1 person a day to win £100 to spend at Yours Clothing.
All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is enter your details before mid-day and one lucky winner will be chosen at random after 1pm on the day.

Easter has arrived at Betty Towers

My little girl has broken up from school for the Easter holidays which can only mean one thing-time for my annual Easter display.
Regular readers of this blog will know I love doing seasonal decorations, the sillier the better and this year is no different.
Its nearly Easter!

I always use a similar template, jugs of flowers, Bell jars filled with Easter themed goodies and Morrissey is always invited (in doll form at least, strangely the real Mozza wont take my calls)

A chorus line of chicks

Mozza hanging with some chicks

I have a basket of decorations which Ive built up over the years but always like to add a few new pieces.
This year Ive been loving the Dotcomgiftshops Easter range. Their stuff has exactly the right mix of quirkiness and nostalgia I crave and its all really affordable too.

well it wouldn't be Easter without a bunny
I brought this little rabbit light from them last year and its looks perfect as part of my Easter table (I think they still have these-they are only a fiver)
I always have an Easter tree to hang colour eggs or decorations from. This year is no different and I'm using some fab vintage postcard decorations

Every year I visit my Mother in law and she very kindly allows me to ransack her garden so I have the right kind of branches for this. Ive also added some freesias as well. I had wanted daffodils but literally grabbed these as a last minute thing from the supermarket where strangely no daffs could be found.
How cute are these chick candles

Jesus was a glam rocker

I hope you all get to have one or two days off next weekend, eat lots of chocolate and celebrate new beginnings. I'm hoping spring arrives as our annual Easter egg hunt will be slightly chilly if we are digging through snow!
If you are feeling crafty check out my how to guides for making leopard print egg decorations or my egg candles both very easy and great projects to do if you are stuck indoors with bored children.
Baba wishes you a very happy Easter

I get invited to a 5 way: London Lincoln Maxi Dress Review

Taking the plunge
Well that got your attention! Get your minds out the gutter.
Last week I was invited by the lovely team at Simply be to take part in a 5 way blogger challenge.
Myself and four other plus size blogger lovelies were tasked with reviewing the London Lincoln maxi dress from the new Project D/London range.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the brand its the brain child of Dannii Minogue and her friend Tabitha Somerset Webb and this is a capsule range designed exclusively for Simply be and encouragingly goes up to a size 32 (if I see one more "special" collection that only goes up to a size 20 for a plus size brand I might scream)
I'm usually more than a little suspicious of celebrity clothing ranges but for some unknown reason a while ago I watched a documentary about Dani and Tabitha launching this label and they are the real deal and really do design everything themselves and certainly the pictures of the clothes looked promising.
This dress scared me at first
Now let me put this out there right now, when Jessica from Simply be suggested we all review this frock it frightened the bejesus out of me.
I'm a short round pudding (with very big hair and eyelashes but a pudding nevertheless) and until now the maxi dress has been no friend of mine.
I did hesitate and consider asking to review one of the other dresses in the range which were more "me" but actually thought it would be fun to try a different style and I'm always banging on about how you should never assume something doesn't suit you until you have tried it on so decided to take my own advice and give it a whirl.
Well I'll be darned, its actually very flattering
At £140 this is one pricey little number but right off the bat I thought it looked beautifully made and finished. When I tried it on I couldn't believe how much I loved it.Quite how a column dress can be flattering on a chick with my proportions I don't know but somehow this is.

This shouldnt work on me but it does!

With its plunging neckline and Grecian style straps it feel vaguely reminiscent of something Liz Taylor would have worn in San Tropez with Richard Burton in the 70's. its all about the cleavage but doesn't look slutty, its looks very elegant, I want to put on a Demis Russos record and reinact Abigails party (in my world this is very good thing)
Perching on a chair in winter-this blogging lark is so glam

"do you like a little bit of Demis Roussos?

The floral print is really pretty and would lend it self nicely to an evening event, wedding or summer garden party, it definitely has more than a whiff of occasion dress about it. Saying that I could imagine myself wearing this on holiday quite happily with a pair of pretty flip flops and a flower behind my ear.
Lots of black eyeliner-Im doing my best Liz Taylor the bloat years impression

I fear my freezing cold garden isnt the right backdrop for such a lovely dress, it deserves a sunny beach or elegent party but hopefully you get the idea.
Check our the other lovely ladies taking part in this challenge and see how they have worn this dress.

What do you think are you tempted by Dannis designs?

Never let your size or shape stop you from loving fashion and enjoying clothes to the max. If you "own" your style and stop feeling apologetic because you are plus size the world of clothes really starts to open up and its a wonderful thing. So get some sass to go with your fat ass!

Vintage Wedding Festival: Come and meet me and Lilly on Sunday

Be and Lilly at a wedding fayre last year

I'm very excited that the Vintage Pamperbox will be exhibiting at the Vintage Wedding Festival at the Camp and Furnace in Liverpool (Greenland st, behind Elevator studios & Cains Brewery's) on Sunday from 11-4.
We are offering wedding make up consultations, free mini makeovers and glasses of fizz. Come and say hi.
If you would like to book a slot with us to ensure we are free just message me in advance.A few slots have already gone so be quick!

We love doing events like this, getting to chat to ladies planning hen parties or wanting to book bridal hair and make up. Its also fab to meet other people who also work in the wedding/events industry.

We always start off being quite shy first thing in the morning but as the day goes on curiosity gets the better of us and we visit each stand and get chatting to the other exhibitors. Ive met some fab little companies this way who I still recommend again and again.

Tea and cake

Vintage inspired glamour

We have such fun dressing our stand. Its always a similar theme, sparkle, vintage glamour and saucy pinup and of course myself and Lilly always don our very best frocks! Here are some pictures from a few events we did last year.

Sassy hen parties for glamerous hens

So if you are in Merseyside and planning a wedding or hen party do come and say hello
