Mad About Matalan

Getting my punk rock on in an outfit from Matalan-who would have thought!

You know occasionally a store has a "Plus sized moment" Its rather like  a senior moment but instead of forgetting where your glasses are and finding them on top of your head its when you enter a shop and suddenly discover there are lots of lovely affordable clothes in larger sizes. Its a total joy fest and happened to me only last week in of all places Matalan.
Ive been known to shop at Matalan before and picked up a couple of lovely summer dresses from there earlier this year but their Autumn/winter collection is rather splendid.
Super cute mini skirt with a very fluffy jumper-perfect for the rather nippy weather

I nipped in on the promise of leopard print creepers for £4 (it was a facebook rumour that came to nowt) and was idly wandering through when a rather cute tartan mini skirt and black mohair jumper combo caught my eye.
I dont think my lipstick looked quite this dayglo-never mind its quite edgey I suppose

I love a tartan skirt and already own a kilt. Its the slight nod to punk rock/grunge and also that they look awesome with thick black tights which is pretty much are all I wear in the winter.
A quiff at the front of my hair and the rest piled up in a messy bun seemed to work well

The skirt is fully lined and feels very well made whilst the mohair jumper is so fluffy with tiny sequins on. As with all mohair it is a bit prickly so Ive put a long sleeved top on underneath it.
My Minnie mouse jelly shoes suit this outfit perfectly

On my feet I'm wearing my Westwood homage Minnie Mouse shoes but think this would look even edgier with my creepers.
I love this necklace so much I may have to have it surgically removed

I wore this outfit to teach at a vintage pamperbox event which is why all the pics are taken against a leopard print background and I felt rather lovely indeed.
So bravo Matalan. You have played a right blinder and I salute you!

Remember feeling good and looking great has nothing to do with dress size and everything to do with attitude.Never wait to be a certain weight to start enjoying clothes and never reject anything thinking it wont suit your shape. Try it on-you may be surprised.

Join My "This Outfit Make Me Feel Fabulous "Project
If you enjoyed seeing my outfit I would love you to join my new project celebrating the amazing style of normal women.
Last week I asked people on my facebook page to attach pictures on my timeline of outfits which make them feel awesome and the response has been wonderful. I'm already blown away at how stylish they all look and would love to roll the idea out so it becomes a regular blog feature. Here is a vlog I filmed about this idea.

I can't do this alone so if you would like to be involved you can either attach a picture to my facebook time line or email me me a photo. Include a few lines about why you love the outfit and where it was from.

  1. Matalan is great for 'short person' moments too. It's one of those funny shops where normally you go in for socks or something then 'bam' some really cool stuff!

  2. I had a wee peek, and its Rogers and Rogers the plus size range from Jeffrey Rogers. We used to have one where I live but they have long gone. I always found the quality of their clothes really good. I spotted a few nice dresses on their site for under £30, bargain :)
