Lady Gaga Copies Me (and I love it)

Lady Gaga-you rock my world

Last week I wrote about the hateful way the daily mail newspaper had treated Claire Richards from Steps and my disgust at how the media in general constantly criticise women about their physiques
It really struck a chord with a lot of my readers who vowed to join me in my project over on my facebook page called "This outfit makes me feel fabulous"

It was call to arms for all my beautiful social media buddies to send me photos of themselves looking amazing at every dress size, body shape and age.
Ive already set out my stall.I want to be the antithesis of the whole "sidebar of shame" where women are endlessly scrutinised and criticised for not being hot enough, thin enough, curvy enough blah blah bah and celebrate how feaking wonderful everyday women are.
As if to reinforce that there had never been a better time to do this just as I was writing my pledge the Daily Mail along with lots of other tabloids were gleefully printing pictures of Lady Gaga which they claimed showed she has put on weight and wasn't it awful.
This picture (which as a photographer I think looks altered) was used with a varity of hurtful headlines including the Suns "Porker face" Nice as if we needed another reason to hate that paper

The photographs actually looked altered to me as pictures of her signing autographs only days earlier showed a considerably slimmer looking woman. Regardless though the spiteful way that her changing body shape was picked over and ultimately reported as being unattractive was just more grist to my mill.

How frigging fantastic then to see Lady Gaga herself take this vile bullying and turn it completely on its head. In response to the body hate she felt the media was perpetrating she launched her own "Body Revolution" over on her Little Monsters Blog.
Posting unedited pictures of herself she completely took the power back and to my mind exposed the recent reporting on her body shape for the shameful rubbish it is.

Having suffered from bulimia and anorexia since she was fifteen she took this step she said to "inspire braverey' and (and I love this part) "breed some compassion"

She closed with this note which I'm going to reproduce in full just because I think it rocks:
"I have been startled and overwhelmed with pride and emotion the past few days. Gratitude mostly. Seeing you post photos of things on your bodies and in your minds that you feel society tells you you should be ashamed of. You are showing them you have no shame. You are brave, strong and accepting not only of yourself, but of others through your experiences. You are proud to be born this way, and brave in your vulnerability with this community. Watching you all create a safe space online for people to be compassionate is the greatest gift you could ever give me. My weight/loss/gain since I was child has tormented me. No amount of help has ever healed my pain about it. But YOU have. My boyfriend prefers me curvier, when I eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks, I'm happy. Happier then I've ever been. I am not going to go on a psycho-spree because of scrutiny. This is who I am. And I am proud at any size. And I love you, and want you to be proud in any form you may take as well. Please don't look for kindness in critics, go where you know the gold is. Here, in out hearts"

Now whether you adore Gaga in her meat dresses and unicorn hats or in general couldn't give a hoot about her or her "little monsters" I think you have to agree this is a great sassy rhinestone encrusted middle finger to the Daily mail and every other syndicated rag who spent last week telling someone they were fat basically to make money.
I have such a strong feeling that revolution is in the air.The body fascists are reining over a crumbling empire my friends. Viva La Revolution.
Join me in my "This outfit makes me feel fabulous" project over on facebook and lets keep the momentum going.
Simply mail me a picture of yourself where you feel you are looking particuarly splendid with a few lines about what you are wearing and why it rings your bell.I will be bringing regular blog posts your way showcasing the beauty and style of normal healthy women of all sizes, shapes and ages and it will be awesome.
I just did an air punch and I'm not ashamed.

How To Care For False Eyelashes

The fabulous Lilly Von Pink who I run The Vintage Pamperbox with is here to show you how to take care of false eyelashes. Take it away scrumptious.

After a night out or a day on shoot the first thing to come off are my false eye lashes.I often leave them on the fire place or bedside table and a few times they have  fallen on the floor freaking meout  and Ive had my husband trying to catch what I thought was a spider (this has given him hours of amusement tormenting me)
Anyway back to the tutorial.Lashes are expensive so getting a few wears out of them is great and thrifty. Here is what you need to know.

You will need
A bowl of warm water with a little soap
Cotton buds
Hand Sanitiser
Lash glue
Storage box

Step 1: Start by placing your used lashes into a bowl of warm soapy water and leave to soak for a minute or so

Step 2: Remove a lash from the water and start by picking off the the old glue on the lash line try not to be to heavy handed.

Step 3: Using a cotton bub and some hand sanitiser and going with the direction of the lash hair wipe till your cotton buds are clear of mascara.

Step 4: I always keep the plastic tray from my lashes as I'm a bit sad and all I do is put a dot of glue on each side just to fix it back to the tray to let them dry and keep their shape.

Little tip keep your eye out for these handy lash storage boxes. Great for in your make up bag so you are only ever a moment away from huge fluttering eyelashes.

This method will ensure you get about five wears out of a pair of false eyelashes and also protect against eye irritation as you wont be putting lashes with old product back on your eyes.

Show us your plums! OOTD

Posing in purple
At this time of year I start digging out outfits in plum, dark pinks and mauve shades. There is something about autumn which makes me want to move away from pastels and rock a slightly more Princesque look. Its Purple rain all the way here at BB Towers.

Dress from BHS-well I never!
I love to wear purple. Nothing suits dramatic make up more and any colour which was a fave of Liz Taylor is good enough for me.
This dress is an oldie but a goldie. I brought from of all places BHS a few years ago. Hidden on a rail amongst a lot of rather horrible old lady dresses was this little beauty. Its the most gorgeous wiggle dress and even comes with a matching belt. Its so beautifully made and I believe I paid about a tenner for it so was a total bargain.
That smug feeling that only a fab dress costing a tenner can bring!
Ive worn it with a purple cardigan from Monsoon, my lovely Jelly bow shoes and a pink headscarf by Diablo Jo.Ive put my hair in a big victory roll.
Putting the wiggle into Wirral
Ive also changed my make up slightly. I'm wearing purple and pink shades on my lids which are from a new Technic electric eyes palette I brought from ebay recently. It was only £3.99 and I brought it in error thinking it was the Sleek i-Devine set but I have to say I'm loving the shimmery bright shades. They are very sparkly so I wouldn't wear them all the time but on a dull Autumn morning they are just the ticket. My lipstick is Amped by Sleek.
Eyeshadow from the Technics Electric eye palette

My necklace is a gold bunny from Accessorize. I love to ring the seasonal changes with my wardrobe. Once Downton Abbey has started and Im wearing a purple cardigan I know Autumn is here!
Autumn is here-so lets make like Liz Taylor

Remember feeling good and looking great has nothing to do with dress size and everything to do with attitude.Never wait to be a certain weight to start enjoying clothes and never reject anything thinking it wont suit your shape. Try it on-you may be surprised.

If you enjoyed seeing my outfit I would love you to join my new project celebrating the amazing style of normal women.
Last week  I asked people on my facebook page to attach pictures on my timeline of outfits which make them feel awesome and the response has been wonderful. I'm already blown away at how stylish they all look and would love to roll the idea out so it becomes a regular blog feature. Here is a vlog I filmed about this idea.

I can't do this alone so if you would like to be involved you can either attach a picture to my facebook time line or email me me a photo. Include a few lines about why you love the outfit and where it was from.

Punk Rock Shower Gel And Popcorn Bubblebath

It was Mr Bee's birthday recently and whilst I was looking for some bath products to add to his present stash I stumbled upon a rather fab little company called The Retro and Vintage Cosmetics company

Punk Rock Inspired bath Smellies-hell yeah

In the past Ive really struggled to find cool looking men's toiletries so instantly fell in love with their "Pretty Vacant" punk inspired unisex range  (anything aimed at "Non conformist boys and girls gets my vote) the company also offer pampering products featuring Space Invaders, Pop Art and comic book characters so ticked lots of my boxes.
Cool Themes and kind to animals

Apart from the rather inspired themes I was also impressed that all  the ingredients in their products are organic, not tested on animals and use no parabens, SLS or SLES so perfect for the environmentally conscious animal lover.
Stocking fillers for every child of the eighties

I got chatting to the company on twitter and they kindly sent me a couple of items to review which were their Popcorn Bubble bath (£4.99 for 200ml)and Vintage inspired hand cream (£6.00 for 100gm)

The fairly basic packaging may divide opinion but the products inside are fab.

The packaging when the items arrived was very simple. Aluminium pump bottles and old fashioned style tins with hand applied labels all of which had a lovely home made feel to it. This may be a bit of a marmite style choice as if your bathroom counter is full of Jo Malone bath oil it may not be sophisticated enough but I really liked it.
Hand cream in an old fashioned style tin.
The Pretty vacant bath foam (£4.99 for 200ml) and shower gel (£4.99 for 200ml) claim to have a classic cologne scent and it does smell rather good. The shower gel is just that, a gel and whilst its not as foamy as your average product a little goes a long way.
The bath foam made good bubbles and Mr Bee really liked both of them, putting them on a par with his favourite Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad products which is high praise indeed. They did leave his skin very soft (I had a feel for test purposes only of course)

The Popcorn Foam bath-good enough to eat
The Popcorn bubble bath I was sent claims to have a "sweet and savoury 1950's inspired smell" to me it just smelt of delicious popcorn and I couldn't get enough of it. The bubble bath left my skin as soft as a kittens paw and I will definitely be repurchasing this, its heaven.

It claims to have a "sweet and savoury" smell but was just delicious
The final product I tried was my least favourite. The Vintage hand cream for dry skin (£6.99 for 100gm) contains extra virgin olive oil and Calendula oil and whilst it was incredibly nourishing it didn't really have a scent, and the smell it did have didn't really tickle my pickle.

Very nourishing hand cream-I would have liked a stronger scent

Saying that Mr Bee really liked this exactly because it wasn't strongly scented so this may be a good choice for chaps. I mentioned this to the guys at the Retro and Vintage Cosmetic company and apparently their body balms and butters are beautifully scented so I will go for those next time.

A good product for the man in your life or for any gals who don't like overly scented products

I'm so glad to have found a British company making such fab organic products featuring such quirky packaging. i would definitely recommend you visit their website or facebook page for a mooch or to pick up some stocking fillers for the dreaded c word.

Quick Peek Inside The Very Vintage PamperTowers

I am currently planning on redecorating the kitchen and bathroom at BB Towers and am hoping to blog all about it so have been watching lots of youtube clips of people doing their own version of "cribs"
I always love it when people film inside their homes and you get to have a little nosey at where they live or work especially if they are quite creative with their interiors.
So in the spirit of being a nosy parker here is a little whistle stop tour of my living room. The quality's not brilliant so I will re film it properly at a later date but welcome to a tiny slice of life at BB Towers

having trouble viewing this embeded clip-watch on Youtube
And for those of you who can't watch clips here are a few pictures I took last year of my object du Betty!
I adore these Carltonware teapots and cups with legs and have a few
