An Open Letter To Stevie Nicks

Dear Stevie
I hope you don't mind me writing this. I understand you don't know me, have never met me, nor are likely to ever make my acquaintance but I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for the following things:

1) The song Dreams. The warble in your voice, the sadness in your huge kohl rimmed eyes is perfection. When you tell your lover he can have his freedom it always brings a tear to my eye.

2) Your adoption of top hats and shawls. neither of these items should be cool and yet somehow you have made it so. At many a drunken party as the evening has drawn to an end and some stoner has stuck Tusk on the turntable I have seen girls wafting around shrugs and shawls to the strains of Sara. This is your style legacy baby and it warms my cockles.

3) Refusing to ever change. In a world obsessed with reinvention you look and sound exactly the same now as you did in the 70's. You are a musical monument to silver spoons, Lear jets and lighting candles and incense in every room. You are still slightly knarked that Lindsay Buckingham dumped you even though he now has grown up children with another woman, you still talk about your flings with drummer Mick Fleetwood and Don Henley as if you are all still twenty and not drawing a pension. its as if you are set in amber.Its oddly reassuring. I'm so relieved you never went through a techno disco phase. even when you featured in the Destiny's Child Bootylicious video when they sampled Edge of Seventeen  you looked just like Stevie Nicks. Not a single sequin did you don as any kind of nod to Mrs JayZ's blingyness. This made me very happy indeed.

So from the bottom of my heart thank you Ms Nicks.I am lighting a joss stick and listening to Edge of Seventeen in your honour.
