I say yes to Horizontal stripes for curvy women

Ive never liked being told what to do and well meaning style advice which tells me ladies with big bangers or large bums shouldn't wear horizontal stripes gets right up my nose. Sure we all know that wearing head to toe black including jaunty balaclava might shave off  a few pounds but god its dull. Today I'm channelling some French chic with a black and white stripy top.I'm a plus sized fashion maverick, throwing convention to the wind. What next I hear you cry? A dress fashioned from spam.
On a less anarchic note I like that this sweater has a band of black at the bottom as it creates the illusion that my hips are thinner than they actually are. Ive coupled it with a pretty pink skirt, footless tights and ballet pumps. Sure it might not make my boobs look smaller but they aren't small-so what? Its not a disability or something to be ashamed of. To many (including my husband) its a joy.
Yes they are stripes, yes they are horizontal, yes I'm rocking them!

Ive worn a clip in fringe to further reinforce the Parisian vibe and have gone for a smoky eye, strong brows and a pale lipstick. I'm looking a little windswept as Ive just been on a rather blustery beach walk.

Remember feeling good and looking great has nothing to do with dress size and everything to do with attitude.

Never wait to be a certain weight to start enjoying clothes and never reject anything thinking it wont suit your shape. Try it on-you may be surprised.

  3. Where does one pur-chase a clip in fringe???! I thought it was YOUR very own, it looks real. Can you do a post about NEVER wearing a wool coat in the rain, even if you think you look a bit nice, because you just end up smelling like a wet dog.....bad times!

    xx

    1. Helen that is exactly what I hear whenever I see a lovely stripy top. Thankfully I still bought my dress in purple, black and white zebra stripes, one of my favourite dresses! :))

  8. I love it! "Big Bangers" are not a disability! I have always said that wearing all black will not make me 6' and a size two with knobbies. When someone compliments me, it means so much because they may not realize the barriers instilled upon us (stripes, patterns, heels, cut of pants and so on) when putting together something that we enjoy wearing. Wear what you like, and that will make whatever is "unflattering" flatter you even more. Thank you from across the pond!
