I'm off to watch a fireworks display tonight. I absolutely love Bonfire night. The smell of bonfires, toffee apples and the lovely sense of well being you get gathered together for the simple pleasure of watching fireworks fill the sky with sparkles and colour.
When I was a little girl the public safety film was still quite a big thing and I remember well the advice regarding staying safe on bonfire night. Take a look at this one which is as sensible today as it was all those years ago.
Whats lovely about November the 5th is that people have been enjoying it in much the same way for years.
The fireworks may have got louder (and probably a lot safer) but the simple fun of just standing outside wrapped up against the cold and oohing and ahhing at the display remains the same year in, year out.
